This book has shifted how I feel about money, how I think about money, what I believe about money, how I pay attention to our money, and I am glad.
I have now joined Kate's online community and am getting emails from her. I want to keep shifting my beliefs and develop great habits with how I pay attention to my money – our money – and how we increase our money.
Reading Kate's book slowly was important for me because I had developed disempowering beliefs that I needed to shift into beliefs that empower me.
I love the way Kate uses humor and how she tells stories about how she go in – and then out of – credit card debt. Kate helps her readers learn from a combination of her own life lessons about money and the new ways she has of thinking about money now – after she began to change how she felt about money and creating new ways to think about it.
A love story with money – is it possible? In this book Kate Northrup takes us on a journey from where we are when we start reading.
(There is a money quiz in the first part of the book that helps you know where to start and what will help you change how you feel about money – by seeing your answers to the questions in the quiz.)
I love the titles of the chapters:
1. What's Love Got to Do with It? 2. It's Not About The Money 3. Woo-Woo Meets Cha-Ching 4. You've Got You Babe 5. What Can You Do to Pay Attention? 6. You Owe You 7. Feel-Good Financial Planning 8. True Financial Freedom
I love what Kate's mom, Dr. Christiane Northrup, says in the foreword to the book. I've included three quotes from her foreword to the book below:
"We all have a unique money legacy, of course. And talking openly and freely about money in families is not common. so it takes courage – and the willingness to look at, and change, your own consciousness about this subject."
"Here's the whole truth. Our relationship with money profoundly affects our health, particularly the health of the second chakra… For years and years as an ob/gyn physician I have seen up close and personal how a woman's health is affected by issues of money, sex, and power – second chakra energies."
"I love that my own daughter, was brought up knowing the link between beliefs and health, has looked her own money legacy straight in the eye – and then, with love and tenderness, changed the barren parts into an oasis of consciousness and practical wisdom. Through the eyes of my own child, I can see how very far I've come from financial terror to financial freedom."
The book is about our relationship with money – and the emotions that go with it and that is why Kate titled her book, "Money – A Love Story."
Kate says, "I'm sure some reading the title will be appalled that I had the nerve to use money and love in the same sentence. To even suggest that money is related to love has the power to offend. Yet I'm so sure that unraveling our money woes has everything to do with love (and very little to do with anything else) that I was willing to put it on the cover of this book."
"To wake up every morning and do whatever calls to you, whatever the heck you feel like doing, is connected to your ability to feel free from financial strain and be open to what your heart is telling you."
Doesn't that sound wonderful to you? It does to me!
Read this book with an open mind and heart. The way Kate talks about money combines the spiritual with the financial. I love that about her book.
Changing your reality with money requires listening to what Kate calls "the voices in your head." Why? Because as Kate says, "Our thoughts create our beliefs, which create our actions, which in turn create our reality." And as Kate says, those beliefs can, and do, come from anywhere.
"If we don't pay attention to the thoughts that are creating our beliefs, our actions, and ultimately our realities, we're not actually in charge of our lives. Instead we're letting some random reporter from the eleven o'clock news, or possibly even worse, our mothers or fathers run our lives."
In my work as a coach, I work with people on their beliefs. We all have beliefs we've picked up that help us and beliefs that hold us back or create problems we then must fix.
What do you believe about money? Do you believe it can be a love story for you?
Kate's mentor, Barbara Stanney, author of the book and course Overcoming Under Earning, says that our degree of resistance around money is proportional to the degree of power available to us on the other side of that resistance.
Kate's realizations on an airplane (in her journal) about self-love…"I've told so many people that the root of all problems is a lack of self-love, but it never occurred to me that my money challenges had anything to do with that and that taking care of myself in this way has nothing to do with deprivation or limitation but everything to do with self-love!"
Kate makes a great case for taking great care of your money as being a way of taking great care of yourself.
Valuing yourself is important and Kate suggests, in the book, to write three things you value about yourself each morning in your journal. I've been doing this since I read that part of Kate's book and I look forward to it each day. It feels good to look back through and read what I've written on previous day.
Each day I start with the words: "I have…" and then just write what I feel inspired to write that day. Kate says not to repeat yourself and I am surprised by how different the value lists are from day to day.
The thing they have in common is they help me feel good and remind me of things I have to value about myself.
Self-value + paying attention to your money + giving more value = receiving more value.
Paying Attention is something Kate insists we do. She's gotten me to set a reminder on my iPhone to so that at 11 AM daily I check all of our online bank accounts. Doing this every day keeps me aware of what we have, what we spend, what's come in, what we owe, and what's in our retirement accounts.
I am feeling more thankful than ever for the money we have and I feel great about paying more attention to the money we have and how we are choosing to use it.
Reading Kate's book has changed forever how I think about money in some powerful and empowering ways. I feel more love for the money we have, more thankful for what we have, and more appreciative of what are are able to do with our money.
I've created a green file folder, as per Kate's suggestion in her book, that says: "Invoices for Blessings Received"
I like this shift in thinking of the "bills" as invoices for blessings we receive.
Each time I put a "bill" in the green "Invoices for Blessings Received" folder it reminds me that it's for a blessing we've received or will during the next month for example our cell phones and the ability to make calls and send text messages; the lights, TV, heat, washer and dryer, stove, microwave we can enjoy using because PG&E provides electricity and gas for us to use each month.
Money – A Love Story. I love the idea of money being a love story. Learning from stories Kate tells about her own life, her mom's, and stories of other people she knows made it easy to remember the lessons.
I love to learn from OPE – Other People's Experiences. Money – A Love Story is just that – a way to learn from the experiences of other people.
Reading this book – cover to cover – took me a long time. But by reading it slowly I was able to gradually begin to shift my beliefs about money in some empowering ways.
Is money a love story for me now? I feel like it's starting to be.
I feel inspired to keep paying attention, make choices I feel proud of, and to keep becoming a better role model in regard to money for our son, my husband, and for all who are in my Circle of Influence as a life coach, author, speaker, and radio show host.
I am glad I chose to review this book and that I read all of it. I plan to read it again – slowly – and move closer to creating a love story with our money.
I would have like the cover to be more colorful or to look more like money – perhaps using gold for the word MONEY and the piggy bank and forest green for the subtitle text. Maybe the second printing could have a more attractive cover but what's in the book is what is most important.
I highly recommend this book!

The first time I saw the cover of this book I knew I wanted to read it. Why? Because I enjoyed Michael's first book, am I being kind, and because I wanted to read about how the dog on the cover helped Michael learn about loving everyone.
Who do I think would enjoy this book? My first thought was everyone. Why? Because of Michael's sense of humor, his stories about his dog Mollie, and the insights that came from spending time with his adorable furry friend.
Mollie's combination of "hilarious antics" and "maddening behavior" lead us to insights that can bring us closer to loving everyone.
In my opinion a lot of people will read this book, enjoy it, and be changed by it. I personally loved this book. I enjoyed the stories Michael tells about Mollie – and what he learns from her. The stories are well-told, inspiring, often funny, and memorable.
This is one of the most inspiring – and funny – books I've ever read.
The idea to write this book came from Michael's grandfather telling him that "loving everyone" was his secret to getting along with so many people. Michael wondered how it would be possible to love everyone. He wondered how you could do it. It was by asking a new question with the word "who" that he got his answer.
"Who do I know that exudes the qualities of a great spiritual master – a person who lives in the present moment, is detached from the material world, embraces simplicity, has the joyful heart of a child, and loves without condition?"
"I was in complete awe of how she possessed the traits of great spiritual masters. That being said, Mollie is no angel. Unconditionally loving, yes. Well behaved … not always."
While writing about life with Mollie, and the lessons she was teaching him, other "teachers" began to appear in Michael's life. As the book progresses there are stories about them along with stories that include Mollie. The book is about enlightenment. Much of it does come from Mollie but mixed in are Michael's own thoughts, insights, and revelations.
The book is divided into three parts.
Part I: In the Beginning was the Word … And the Word was Dog
Part II: When the Student is Ready, The Teacher Will Appear
Part III: A New Leash on Life
The first part of the book is mostly about Mollie and Michael. The second part of the book brings in some other spiritual teachers along with more stories about Mollie. The third part of the book talks about everyday heroes, kindness, and love. The book has many funny parts and yet it does include some emotional parts.
As Michael says, we all have to deal with unkind people from time to time – family members, friends, and strangers and that is why the chapter titled "Dealing with Difficult Dogs" will be helpful to readers of this book.
Michael has this to say about love: "The key is to stop thinking of love as only an interpersonal experience. By understanding the essence of love, which is divine and all encompassing, we begin to have options. It can be delivered in a variety of ways. Romantic, spiritual, parental, and act of kindness and even tough love are just a few ways we can offer it to those around us. Self-love is where it all begins though. We cannot authentically give away what we do not feel toward ourselves."
In the chapter titled Everyday Heroes Michael told us that his Mom is one of his heroes. I could relate to that because my Mom was, and still is, a hero of mine. Michael says, "I'm very fortunate to have another hero in my life who has been with me since the beginning. Even though I've spent 43 years with her, it took me a while to recognize this person as my greatest teacher. She's inspiring, positive, kind, loving, hysterically funny… and everything that's right with the world. And as with my other spiritual super heroes, time and again it's been her unconditional love that rescues me from the darkness whenever I'm lost."
The story of taking his Mom – and Mollie – to visit Boothbay Harbor in Maine, was one of my personal favorites in the book. Why? Because of the humor and the fact that I fell in love with his Mom during the story. How Michael feels about his Mom is how I feel about my Mom and how I'd love my son to feel about me.
The book's title states it is The Radical Practice of Loving Everyone but as you read the book it begins to feel possible rather than being just a radical idea.
I believe this book will help readers look at love – and loving everyone – in some new and empowering ways.
The book is entertaining, encouraging, and enlightening. Reading it was enjoyable – in fact so much so I felt like I wanted it to keep going when I got to the end. It is a small book – a great size for talking with you to read on a plane or while on vacation. I love the cover photo and design which were done by Michael. Just seeing Mollie on the cover makes me laugh and reminds me that perhaps it's possible to love everyone.
I found myself laughing out loud and reading various parts to my husband. Michael is a great and inspiring storyteller.
I recommend this book to everyone however the people who will love it most are those who love animals. I also believe this book can help people who have never had a dog – or even loved an animal – to realize how much love, joy, and enlightenment animals can add to your life.

I am saying YES to "The Magic of SAYING YES" by Betsy Gutting!!!
What an inspiring book!!!! I found myself looking forward, always, to what stories she would tell next all the way to the end.
As a life coach and author Betsy is authentic, lovable, fun, and unique. Betsy also has a weekly internet radio show on 12 Radio. The show "Just Say Yes" with Betsy Gutting airs live on Mondays from 12:00 - 1:00 pm Pacific Time.
Betsy wrote parts of the book while she was in Puerto Vallarta and it was fun to hear on Facebook that Betsy was back in Puerto Vallerta for a book talk the day I finished reading The Magic of Saying Yes.
Betsy Gutting - The Magic of Saying Yes! Book Talk in Puerto Vallerta
This book is a guide to help you break free from obstacles and embrace your heart's true path. Betsy is an intuitive, kind, and loving coach whose desire is to empower her readers to say YES to their heart's desires and dreams.
Betsy writes from her heart and I felt like she was sitting there with me telling me the stories. I am glad to have read her book and feel certain I will enjoy re-reading it as well.
While reading the book, and since then, I've found myself thinking about saying YES more often. For example, I am saying YES to being brave, focused, and present. It's also reminding me to do things I've been saying I'll do someday. What is your heart's true calling? What have you always wanted to do? For me it means I'll be doing more singing, more coaching, more writing, and more speaking. I'll also be starting my own internet radio show soon!
Do I recommend this book? YES.
I highly recommend buying and reading this book because it will help you discover the magic of SAYING YES.

Ignite I Can Do It Speakers - 2013 San Jose, California
When I saw the line-up of speakers for the 2013 Ignite I Can Do It! conference it inspired to go so I could review it. I am glad I did go decide to again. I am also glad I attended it in person. Why? Because I enjoyed being there so I could meet the authors and I also enjoyed being with so many like-minded people.
Some of the topics were entirely new to me, some were familiar and of interest, and some of the speakers I've heard several times before. Every one of the talks at this conference was unique and interesting. Below I've included photos of the speakers from the event.
The "Ignite" I Can Do It conference is about igniting your inner light and sharing it with the world. Each speaker at the conference had ingited their own light and was, in their own way, shining their light on all of us. Each speaker was encouraging those of us in the audience to shine our light for those in our own circle of influence. I
love going to these events in person because it feels wonderful to be
in an auditorium with so many people who are committed to
healing the world.
The conference took place on Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17, 2013 in San Jose, California. It was held at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts.
I am glad to
have gone to it and I'm also thankful to have the USB wristband so I can
re-watch and listen to each of the speakers.
Following are photos and brief descriptions of the talks by each speaker at the conference. I've include the titles of their talks and where possible links for websites so you can find out more about them.
SATURDAY, MARCH 16, 2013 - SPEAKERS:
Dr. Wayne Dyer - Saturday 9am-12pm
Wishes Fulfilled: Master the Art of Manifesting
I've seen Dr. Dyer speak many times and this was one of his best talks. I always wonder what he'll say that will make it new for me and he did it once again. He has a way of combining some of the things we've heard before with new stories from his life.
Dr. Dyer told us about being inspired to write a new book titled I Can See Clearly Now. He had just turned in the manuscript for the book to Hay House. He had not planned to write it and had to rent a place to write since it came to him during the summer while his family was visiting him on Maui. Hearing how inspired he was to write the book makes me really curious to read it.
If you've never heard Dr. Dyer speak in person, I recommend it. If you've heard him before, I recommend seeing him again. It is easy to see why he's been called "The Father of Inspiration" by so many for so long. Dr. Dyer easily kept the audience's full attention for three hours.
Skye Dyer and Alex Woodard gave an inspiring performance during Wayne Dyer's talk. I always love to hear Skye sing. I have both of her albums on CD and I love seeing her sing during her Dad's talks. Skye has a beautiful voice and is a joy to hear. Alex Woodard wrote a song based on a beautiful letter written by Wayne's daughter Serena to her dad. Alex Woodard played guitar and Skye did a beautiful job singing the song.
Charles Holt - Saturday - 2pm
Finding Your Voice: Keys to Your Greatest Potential
Charles Holt told us that it was his Grandmother who inspired him to sing. In this inspiring and entertaining talk we heard how he went from working at IBM to performing in musicals such as Jesus Christ Super Star and the Lion King on Broadway. His message is one of living the music you hear calling you.
Nancy Levin gave a powerful talk about how her poetry book helped her become the strong and happy person she is today. Her honesty about how she felt and why she wrote the book were touching. The poems she read us were wonderful. I am looking forward to getting a copy of her inspiring book.
Radleigh talked about the Angel Tarot cards that he designed with Doreen Virtue. He is fun to watch and I enjoyed hearing what he had to say. I've got the Angel Tarot card deck and the illustrations are beautiful. I am looking forward to hearing more of what Radleigh has to say.
From my Hands and Heart: Achieving Health and Balance with CranioSacral Therapy
This was my first time hearing about CranioSacral Therapy. Kate said she hoped she had inspired us to learn more about CranioSacral therapy. I have to admit I am curious. There did not seem to be a website for Kate MacKennon.
This talk was a surprise to me. John's talk was totally different than any I've ever attended by a Hay House author. I was not sure I'd like to hear it but had decided I would listen to every speaker. I have to admit he got us laughing and had saying "F**k It!" I'm still amazed that he had us dancing to his "F**k It!" music but he it was a good release and actually kind of fun.
Rita was bold, funny, and entertaining. It was amazing to have the God Father's daughter talking to us at a Hay House event. Her message was about being who you are – even when you grow up in a family who wants you to be like them. She told us that her father had traits of compassion but he let his ego take over. Rita says, "You think you're stuck but you're not. I broke the rules but I had to do it. You just have to be you."
Derek talked about living by high daily standards instead of just setting goals. He has information on his website about what he calls the P.E.R.F.E.C.T. Life Standards System. He made us think about the standards we live by in the various areas of our life. What are our standards for personal health and fitness? For relationships, family, and our environment? Career or job, time, emotions. He calls himself The Standards Guy.
Julie talked about how foods we choose can help us heal. She says that inflammation can come from the foods we eat. She said that if you have depression, heart disease, Parkinson's, Bursitas, Arthritis… her book can help you. If you have problems with inflammation might want to find out more about what she's learned.
From I Can't to I Can: The two-step process that creates real transformation
Pamela talked about how tapping, EFT, can help us go from a feeling of "I can't" to an empowered feeling of "I can do it!" She told us that tapping can help calm our fear center, the amygdala. She had us do some tapping with her to see how it feels. I have to say it was interesting. I've just started to learn about tapping and was curious to try it. Pamela had the audience tapping along with her. It did seem to help me feel good and a great number of people in the room said it had helped them.
Anita is a true inspiration. Her story is amazing and it inspires us to let go of trying to be who others want us to be. On February 2, 2006 she crossed over and shares what she learned from the experience. She decided to come back and had an amazing recovery from the cancer that had been killing her. She came back to life with clarity and an understanding of her purpose.
Anita radiates love, peace, and joy. Her message reminds us to love more
- to love our self and to radiate love to all around us. Anita
reminds us to be who we are and to enjoy our life.

Alex Woodard - Saturday - 6:00 pm
For the Sender
Alex's talk was both sad and inspiring. Hearing his stories, and the songs he played for us, reminded us all to enjoy the time we have with people while we can. The letter from Emily was beautiful and touched me deeply. It was also sad when Alex talked about losing his beloved friend, his black lab named Kona. Alex showed a video of him and some friends performing the song for the woman who had inspired him to write a song based on a letter she had sent him. The book "For the Sender" includes a CD of songs by Grammy award winning artists.
Doreen Virtue was inspiring, entertaining, and fun as usual. I've heard her speak several times now and have enjoyed her each time. During this evening talk she had Radleigh Valentine as a guest. The two of them have been teaching how to use their Angel Tarot cards. I have a feeling it would be great fun to take their day long class.
If you are curious about Doreen Virtue and her books about Angels, visit her website: http://www.angeltherapy.com/
SUNDAY, MARCH 17, 2013 - SPEAKERS:
SUNDAY
Caroline Myss - Sunday - 9:00 am
Archetypes
During her Sunday morning opening keynote talk, Caroline talked about "Archetypes" which is also the title of her new book. I've heard her talk a couple of times before. She's always interesting but she was especially entertaining during this talk. She said things like, "Let me explain in fun detail." She says we "google" in our own head – which she calls our "inner-net" vs the internet. Caroline asked the audience, "What have you always wanted to do?" Then she said, "It's in your soul. You were assigned it. You're searching for the courage to be who you are."
To find out more about Caroline and her new book, visit her website: http://www.myss.com/
Mike Robbins - Sunday - 10:00 am
Love Yourself and the Rest Will Follow
Mike Robbins started by talking about his two daughters, ages 4 and 7, and that he had been given the advice to teach them how to love themselves. He talked about what he had learned about how to do it in this talk. I could feel the love he has for his daughters and his Mom who has been gone for over a year. I had met Mike on facebook, after attending a Hay House event, and I'd been looking forward to hearing him speak. I'm glad I got to hear him speak at this event.
Terri Cole worked as an agent for super models before becoming a therapist and life coach. She talked about fear and how she had been "fearless" while growing up. She began to feel fear because of a diagnosis she'd been given. It was what caused her to change how she thought about fear. Her talk was inspiring and reminded us all to notice that we are here now and to make the most of each day.
Lisa Selow came onstage to the song, "Rebel, Rebel" by David Bowie. She looks like a rebel and she talked about what she calls "positive rebellion" which is an interesting concept. Lisa is one of the new Hay House speakers who will appeal to the younger audience and also cause the rest of us to look at life in some fun and interesting ways.
To find out more about Lisa and how to "Rock Your Life" visit her website: http://lisaselow.com/
Tara Taylor - Sunday - 11:30 am
Embrace Your Intuitive Abilities by Understanding Your Ego
Tara Taylor talked about being born with ESP and how she had tried to numb it when she was 17 years old. She has written a book titled "Through Indigo's Eyes" which she told us took her 10 years to write. She told us to love our ego, to acknowledge it, thank it, love it - but not to listen to what it tells us to do. She was told to stop being so selfish and stubborn and to realize her she was meant to serve by using the gifts she'd been given.
Ahlea Khadro started as a gymnist and after surgery on her knee became interested in health and healing. She told us that Louise Hay walked into her wholistic center in San Diego ten years ago and that now they are writing a book together.
Playing By The Real Rules of Life: Turning Adversity into Opportunity
Ken Druck lost one of his daughters while she was away for "Semester at Sea" 17 years ago. He talked about what he's learned from losing her. Hearing him talk reminded me of how thankful I am to have our son and made me want to be able to live close to him.
To find out more about Ken Druck and his book "Playing by the Real Rules of Life" visit his website: http://www.kendruck.com/
Neha Sangwan - Sunday - 2:30 pm
The Communication Cure
Dr. Neha Sangwan talked about 5 levels of agreement. She had five people sit in chairs on the stage and asked them questions. I found her talk interesting. It is helpful to understand the five levels acknowledgement for communications with people you love and also for more success in your work.
Meadow Linn is the daughter of Denise Linn. I was curious to hear what she had to say about her book. Meadow loves food. She loves cooking it and eating it. I am curious to read the book because it was clear she has a passion for the topic. During her talk, Meadow gave us some inspiring new ways to think about what we choose to eat and how we can get more enjoyment from our food choices.
Creating Heaven on Earth by Encountering Your Life Review Now
Karen Noe talked about doing what she calls a Life Review in order to see how we've effected other people through their eyes. I found her talk inspiring and am curious to learn more about how to do the Life Review process.
Empowerment Eating: Learn the 4 keys to a successful meal plan that can fuel the success of your dreams!
Jenny Ross is passionate about what she calls "Empowerment Eating" and eating living foods. She has a restaurant called 118 Degrees in Costa Mesa, California.
Sarah McLean gave an inspiring talk about discovering your true power through meditation. She says that meditation can help us be: more present, more loving, more aware, and more creative. Those all sound good to me and they are benefits I've discovered I get from meditation. As she said, in meditation you are giving attention to your self.
To find out more about Sarah McLean and what she can teach you about meditation, visit her website: http://www.sedonameditation.com/
Erin Cox - Sunday - 4:15 pm
One Hot Mama: How to Live a Hotter, Healthier, and Happier Life Now
Erin Cox, mother of three, had attended a Hay House Writer's Workshop and she got a call from Reid Tracy telling her they wanted her to be one of their authors. She talked about living with joy, meditating, moving your body, and living with passion.

Girls Rule & Performance - Sunday - 4:45 pm
Girls Rule
Vicki Savini and Stephanie Liberty are inspiring teachers who have created a wonderful weekend program for girls ages 9-12. The girls spent all day Saturday and Sunday with Vicki and Stephanie while we were hearing the Ignite speakers. The girls learned some of the 7 Essentials from Vicki's upcoming book titled Ignite the Light. I met Vicki and Stephanie and could feel the love they radiate out to all who were in their presence. The girls did a performance for all of us on the main stage. It was wonderful to see the joy and confidence the girls showed during the performance.

Kyle Gray - Sunday - 5:00 pm
Affirmative Prayer - Working with the Angels for Healing in the Moment
Kyle Gray was a delightful surprise. He told us about how his Grandma had come back to see him and then at age 15 he began to learn about crystal powers and healing. He started to do readings with Angel cards and what is called "affirmative prayers" during his talk. While he was talking about the affirmative prayers a blue "orb" showed up on the page of my notebook. I had learned about "orbs" at the 2012 Ignite I Can Do It in San Jose and this felt like a sign to pay attention to what Kyle was telling us.
Kyle suggested we say, "Angels, thank you for making this happen. Thank you for making this happen if it's meant to happen." Affirmative prayer is done by saying thank you instead of asking for the Angels to make it happen.
Roz Savage is the first woman to row solo across three oceans! She had decided to write two versions of her own obituary: One which was a fantasy of living her life to the fullest and one which was what she was headed for if she kept doing what she'd been doing. She wanted to use the medium of adventure – sailors, explorers, and rowing solo - to do something to help take care of the Earth. She urged us to "stop drifting" and "start rowing" in order to live a life of meaning and purpose. A life we feel proud to live and where we make a positive difference by being here on Earth.
Robert Holden was the closing keynote speaker for the 2013 San Jose "Ignite I Can Do It!" conference. Robert's talk was a perfect way to end the two day conference. He talked about Louise Hay's vision of the "Ignite" I Can Do It conferences "igniting" our passion and inspiring us to do something new. He talked about how no amount of self-improvement can make up for any lack of self-acceptance. He showed a one-minute video called "Evolution" created by the Dove Self-Esteem Fund. The video shows what is done to make women look like they do in ads. (You can click on the link above if you'd like to see it on Vimeo.)
Robert Holden also talked about searcing for happiness vs. following your joy. He asked us to answer the question, "What does following my joy mean to me?" Toward the end of his talk he told us a little about his new book, titled Loveability. The book sounds wonderful and I am looking forward to reading it!
In conclusion, I am glad to have attended the 2013 San Jose Ignite I Can Do It. I am also glad to have the USB Wristband that has videos of the speakers as well as the digital audio files of their talks. These new "ignite" conferences have speakers who are new and have some interesting and sometimes a bit shocking ways of getting their message across. To be honest I have to say I enjoyed hearing every speaker and was happy to be at the event. One of the most wonderful things about attending Hay House events live is it gives you a chance to talk with other like-minded people who value growth, are open minded, and are committed to healing, health, and happiness.
I highly recommend attending in person but if you can't go in person please consider viewing by live stream video when it is available as a choice. I also recommend buying the USB wristband so you can watch or listen to the speakers with your family and friends.
For information about upcoming Hay House events, click here.
Louise Hay and Cheryl Richardson have been mentors of mine for many years. They are both inspiring, uplifting, and want us to love life. Because they have been such an inspiration to me, and to millions of people all over the world, I jumped at the chance to review their new DVD set "You Can Trust Your Life" which was filmed during a two-day workshop in London.
The collaboration of these two women creates inspiration that is more than double what they are able to do separately. The love they have for each other – and for all of the people in their audience – is obvious and inspiring to watch.
This 4 DVD set is inspiring. I was amazed by how beautiful the room was and how much fun it was to "participate" in the weekend workshop by viewing the four DVDs.

the DVDs arrived I had started taking a five-week online course "You
Can Trust Your Life" with Louise and Cheryl. I thoroughly enjoyed the
online class and looked forward to it each week.
When
the DVDs arrived I wondered if I would find them interesting since I had heard
most of what would be on them. But what I discovered is that watching
the DVDs made me feel like I was there.
I
loved being able to see Louise Hay and Cheryl Richardson on the stage
talking with the audience and with each other. They are a delightful
duo. They are kind, loving, present, and are willing to let themselves
be silly. Laughter makes us all relax and it is wonderful to laugh while
learning how to love yourself and be your own best friend.
Louise Hay and Cheryl Richardson on a DVD during their two day workshop "You Can Trust Your Life" in London.
Both Louise and Cheryl told us that everyone feels – to some degree – that they are unworthy, unlovable, or not good enough and said these feelings interfere with our ability to feel happy, healthy, and excited about life.
They warned us not to try to change others – to let others be who they are. Trying to change other people so you can be happy never works. The key is to work on things you want to improve about your own thinking and behavior.
Louise told us to think of affirmations as seeds we are planting – seeds of things we would like to grow for our future. The DVDs include a wonderful assortment of affirmations for increasing your feelings of self-worth, creating the feelings you want to feel, and enjoying better relationships with people you love and people you work with.
Louise says that being too "wordy" makes it hard to remember an affirmation so she says to keep them as short as possible so you can easily remember them.
"Write how you would like to feel. What would you like to feel?" – Louise Hay
Cheryl Richardson also reminded us to "marry affirmations with action" because just saying the words doesn't create your desired outcomes. We need to be inspired by the words and have them remind us to take the actions that will create how we want to feel.
If you are willing to shift your perspective and become aware of what you say to yourself, you can create wonderful changes in your life. In fact, one of the things you will learn if you watch these DVDs is how to "dissolve" old habits and replace them with new habits that empower you and help you feel better about yourself and your life.
The "mirror work" Louise suggests we do is done with your choice of positive affirmations. The first one she says to say is, "I love you. I really, really love you." It is a challenge at first to look in the mirror and talk to yourself especially to say I love you, but if you keep at it the results are wonderful and you'll be glad you gave it a try.
Following are some of the affirmations I wrote while watching the DVDs.
I love you. I really, really love you.
I always love my job. I always have good bosses. I always have good clients. I work in an atmosphere of love & joy.
I work for people who appreciate me – including myself. I accept work that uses all of my talents and abilities. I have great relationships with everyone I work with, and for. I love my work.
I love my closet – it is so easy to get dressed. I am comfortable in my clothing. I'm showered with good thoughts all day long. I've become a master at delegating and receiving help. I love receiving help.
I love my life! I love this day! I love it when the sun shines! It's wonderful to feel the love in my heart. Everything I do brings me joy. I prosper wherever I am.
I trust myself. I trust life. I trust myself to do what I need to do to keep myself healthy and strong.
It is easy for me to ASK for what I want.
Choose your favorites from the list above and try saying them to yourself in a mirror. I believe you'll be glad you chose to do it!
"I bless and prosper everyone in my life and everyone in my life blesses and prospers me." Cheryl told us that Louise has this affirmation hanging up in her bathroom so she sees it several times a day. The idea of blessing and prospering everyone in our life is wonderful and if we do it, I am sure the second part would be true as well – everyone in our life would want to bless and prosper us.
I loved watching these DVDs. Louise and Cheryl are inspiring, uplifting, beautiful, joyful, playful, silly, kind, loving, authentic, and fun.
I highly recommend getting the DVDs "You Can Trust Your Life" because they are inspiring and fun to watch. In fact, I feel certain you'll be glad to have them in your home library.

The book, emPOWERed YOUth was written by a father and son, Michael and Jeffrey Eisen. The subtitle of the book says, "A father and son's journey to conscious living." The subtitle really describes what this book is like. In the book, the Eisen's take us on a journey that describes how they went from feeling stressed, unhappy, and unhealthy to feeling peaceful, happy, and healthy. The transformation in their relationship with each other, as well as the changes they have made in their work, truly inspires me.
Michael Eisen
is a passionate, authentic, and charismatic speaker and he is the
founder of the Youth Wellness Network which is an organization dedicated
to inspiring and empowering youth across the globe to live happier and
more positive lives.
Jeffrey
Eisen went from being President and CEO of a multimillion dollar business to a
life of awakening, empowering, and inspiring others by sharing what he has learned through his work as a life coach.
I was very curious to read this book after speaking with Michael during an interview I did with him last year. Michael tells, in the book's introduction, about what it was like to meet Louise Hay and Reid Tracy and be asked to share his story with them was interesting and inspiring to me.
The book gives an autobiographical view of the lives of Jeffery and Michael
Eisen. I found it interesting to hear both sides – back and forth – how
Jeffery (the Dad) saw it, what he was thinking, feeling, and learning –
and how that helped Michael (the Son) to see life in some new ways,
change how he felt, what he believed, and also inspired him to create
the Youth Wellness Network.
The book includes life stories along with a collection of
what the Eisen's feel are their most important life lessons. In the book are insights, and principles that influenced the Eisens and
supported them in their journey to conscious living. Reading this book can help people realize that everyone has the ability to change their life for the better.
At the end of the book is a resources section that includes many exercises, activities, and practices you can choose to make part of your daily life or just pull them out when you need them.
The Eisens believe this book can help people improve their relationships and begin to create a new future full compassion, understanding, empowerment, and true happiness for everyone. I think they are right.
What did I like about this book?
I liked hearing both stories – from the dad, Jeffery, and the son, Michael. I was inspired by how Jeffrey's decision to become a life coach helped his son in so many ways. It was also inspiring to know that when you decide to change how you look at life, think about life, and therefore how you feel about it, you can go from feeling ill, unhappy, and stressed, to feeling healthy, happy, and peaceful. The Eisens have learned how to be in agreement with the flow of life. The changes these two men have made is inspiring.
The Eisens give us a new perspective on how parents and kids can empower each other. How? By opening up to honest communication and a willingness to let go of beliefs that cause unhappiness, illness, and a life full of fear and stress. This book offers guidance for parents, young people, educators, and anyone who wants to live a more empowered and loving life.
Adults will probably be able to relate to both Jeffery and Michael's stories. Young people will relate most to how Michael was feeling – especially during high school and college.
Before attending the "Ignite! I CAN DO IT!" in San Jose, California in March 2012, I was able to do a phone interview with Michael Eisen. To hear my interview of Michael Eisen, click on the gray bar below.
In my opinion, this book will be most helpful to parents and young people (teens through early 20s). But I also believe the book could be helpful for people who want to re-look and re-create their relationships with their own parents.

Last year I attended the Pasadena, California "I CAN DO IT!" conference in person. This year I wasn't able to take the time to travel to Pasadena so I decided to "attend" by watching the "Live Video Stream" instead.
The really cool thing about the live video stream is that you can watch in your comfy clothes on your computer!
During the live, in-person conference, which starts on Friday and goes all day on Saturday and Sunday, you can choose four 2-hour workshops to attend.
The live video stream has a selection of talks chosen by Hay House. The good thing about that is that I saw some talks I might not have chosen if I was at the live event with more choices.
Every talk I watched was interesting. Some were exactly what I had wanted to hear – and some were surprises that I am glad to have experienced thanks to the live video.
Being able to see and hear the speakers on the live stream video was great. One thing I like is being able to take "screen shots" of the speakers while they are talking. To give you an idea of what it's like to see the video stream I've included few "screen shots" taken while I was watching. I've also included some "screenshots" from the videos on the USB wristband that can be purchased if you are attending the event live or by live video stream on your computer. It is wonderful to have the USB wristband so I can re-watch my favorite videos. The USB wristband also gives me the option to listen to the audios of the speakers whose talks were not included with in live video stream.
One of the things I love about the Hay House "I CAN DO IT!" conferences is that hearing the authors talk about their books brings their books to life.
Nancy Levin reading from her poetry book
Nancy
Levin is the event director for Hay House publishing. For years we've
seen her introduce authors and speakers at the events. During the past
few events Nancy has been reading poems from her poetry book. The title
of her book is "Writing
For My Life...Reclaiming the Lost Pieces of Me: A Poetic Journey."
Hearing Nancy read her poems and talk about why she wrote them really made her book have more meaning. I loved hearing her read her poems!
Following are my thoughts about the talks I was able to watch with the Live Video Stream of the 2012 Pasadena I Can Do It! conference:
Wayne Dyer - Skye Dyer singing and Alex Woodard on guitar
FRIDAY NIGHT, October 26 7:00 P.M.-9:30 P.M. Keynote: WAYNE DYER Wishes Fulfilled: Master the Art of Manifesting
Dr. Wayne
Dyer talked about how to manifest your desires in this talk. As Dr. Dyer says, "Everything that now exists was once imagined. And everything that will ever exist must first be imagined." In this talk, Dr. Dyer went over ideas from his latest book "Wishes Fulfilled" which goes into detail about how you can use your imagination to find out how you would feel if your wish was a present fact. (I've written a blog review of Dr. Dyer's book "Wishes Fulfilled" so you can click on the title if you'd like to read it.)
I've
heard Dr. Dyer talk many times so for me there is usually material
I've heard before. But one of the things I enjoy about Dr. Dyer's talks
is that he always adds in new thoughts, new people, and new
ideas. There is always going to be at least a few surprises in each of his talks.
During
this talk Dr. Dyer's youngest daughter, Saje Dyer, talked to us about how
she had gotten rid of what she calls her "bumps" when she was a child.
Dr. Dyer wrote about this in one of his books but it was great to hear
the story from his daughter's memory of it. As she told us, she believed
her parents when they told her she could "talk to her bumps" (which
were all over her face) and tell them she loved them and that they could
go away. It took about four days but they all cleared up and have not
come back. Hearing Saje tell her story reminded me of the importance of what we are taught to believe can come true for us! Another surprise was that Dr. Dyer had his daughter Skye Dyer sing a new song written by Alex Woodard who played guitar. The song was based on a letter Dr. Dyer's daughter Serena had written to him. Because Serena wasn't there, Saje read the letter to us for her. Right after that we got to hear the letter come to life as a song. Alex Woodard is a singer, songwriter, musician, and the author of a book titled "For The Sender." After hearing Dr. Dyer talk about him and his book I was glad that one of the Live Video Stream talks, on Saturday, October 27, 2012 would be by Alex Woodard.
Louise Hay and Cheryl Richardson
SATURDAY, October 27 8:30 A.M. - 10:00 A.M. Keynote: LOUISE HAY AND CHERYL RICHARDSON It's Never Too Late to Change
Louise Hay and Cheryl Richardson are a delightful duo. They are authentic, likable, funny, and unique. Each time I've heard them speak has been an uplifting experience.
In this keynote talk titled "It's Never Too Late to Change" they inspired us to make positive changes at any time in our life. Louise Hay had just had her 86th Birthday a couple of weeks before the conference. Cheryl pointed out that the last time she had seen her, Louise had long hair and she was surprised to see Louise with short hair. Louise explained that she had felt it was time for a change. Louise Hay used her hair to help us remember that "It's never too late to change." Both of these inspiring women are willing to change, they love to learn, and their intention is always to share ideas that can help the people in their audiences believe they can do it too.
This talk was based on the book Louise Hay and Cheryl Richardson wrote together. The title of the book is "You Can Create An Exceptional Life." I've written a review of their book and if you'd like to know why I recommend their book, you can read my review of it by clicking on the title.
One of the things they both say is to decide how you will start your day. Louise says she starts her day by saying Thank You and saying I love you to herself in the mirror. Loving yourself and saying Thank You are two powerful ways to feel good about yourself and your life. They also reminded us that everything we think and everything we say (to ourselves or out loud) is an affirmation. By choosing to talk about things as you like them to be you are affirming these things in your life. But what many people do instead is to complain and as Louise Hay said, before you complain to her you've already been going over and over it in your mind.
One of the examples Louise Hay gave, regarding affirmations for using around your house, was to affirm that your closet always has beautiful clothes in it that you love to wear and that you feel beautiful in. She also affirms that everything she wears fits her perfectly. As she said, so many people say things like, "I never have anything to wear." and "Nothing in my closet fits me." Her suggestion is to re-phrase what you say so you are talking about what you do want. Since hearing her say that I've been affirming that I have beautiful clothes in my closet and dresser that fit me well and make me feel beautiful when I wear them. One of the things it is doing is to remind me to give away things that don't fit or just don't feel good for me to wear.
Cheryl had a fun suggestion for those who have iPhones or "smart" phones. She told us she puts affirmations as reminders so they pop up on her phone during the day. I decided to give it a try and it's fun to see things like, "Your smile lights up the world." and "You make a positive difference by being yourself." Cheryl also had one that said, "I love living with you." Wouldn't it be nice to see that pop up on your phone? What would you like to affirm?
Cheryl told us that she gets boxes of Louise Hay's calendar to give as gifts. I've given them as gifts for the past few years and I always enjoy having her page-a-day calendar of affirmations to see each day. They sell out quickly so if you want to get one for yourself and some to give as gifts, order them soon.
Louise Hay and Cheryl Richardson are inspiring, encouraging, and fun. I highly recommend hearing them speak live if you can do it or at least watching them on the live video for one of the events if you can't do it in person.
Deborah King
10:30 A.M. – 12:30 P.M. Workshop DEBORAH KING Spiritual Ecstasy
Deborah
had been a lawyer with a stressful life and then found out she had
cancer. She stepped off the "fast track" and took a look at herself. She
had been someone who had been into high speed, high risk sports,
promiscuity, anything to keep from feeling her emotions. She realized
she needed to get in touch with her emotions. She started with a 12-Step
program. She picked AA. She says there isn't one of us that doesn't
have some sort of addiction.
Deborah
encouraged us to get in touch with our emotions with a journal or even
the computer. She said to type
or write as fast as you can to spear the ideas and thoughts. I've found this to be really helpful for me. Hearing Deborah speak also reminded me to write about what I really feel because as she says in her first book, truth heals!
12:30 P.M.- 2:30 P.M. - Lunch Break
Dr. Fabrizio Mancini
2:30 P.M. - 4:30 P.M. Workshop FABRIZIO MANCINI The Power of Self-Healing
Dr. Fabrizio Mancini was delightful and inspiring. I enjoyed hearing his stories and became curious to read his book "The Power of Self-Healing." I liked what Dr. Fabrizio was saying and how he said it.
Dr. Fabrizio (which is what he seems to like to be called) told us the story of why he was inspired to go into medicine. Dr. Fabrizio has a passion for healing. His passion comes through when he speaks. His enthusiasm is contagious.
It was during a visit to see his Aunt and Uncle in Columbia that he was given what he calls a second chance to live. He says we are all living on borrowed time and during that visit he decided he was not going to waste his life. He wanted his life to have meaning and he decided that he would become a doctor.
You may have heard it before, but Dr. Fabrizio told us that most of our health problems are preventable. Dr. Fabrizio says that 80% are due to life style choices. Hearing that statistic really made me think about the life style choices I've made and what changes I can make.
In his book he talks about ways we can have more energy, sleep better, have more clarity, and feel more peace.
He talks about health on three planes: Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual. Each of the three contributes to living a healthy and happy life. He says that as a chiropractor he is looking at you as a well person. He touched briefly on energy medicine and about what he called "a dance with the Universe."
Trust, he says, is a key factor in healing. Trusting the provider of the treatment and trusting that your body can heal.
I was happy to hear Dr. Fabrizio say that creativity is very healing. It had always seemed that way to me. He says that art is a great healer and music can help us reconnect brain cells. From what he said, to live a healthy and happy life it is a good idea to take time for creativity, music, and art.
Another suggestion is to listen to recordings in your car - messages that uplift, inspire, encourage, and remind you to appreciate all that's going well in your life.
"You've got to trust. You've got to connect. You've got to let go of relationships that are bringing you down. Surround yourself with positive people."
As Dr. Fabrizio says, I truly believe that the Hay House authors want us to walk out saying "I can do it this time
because I am ready for that change. I love myself more than I did
before. I'm worth it!"
Dr. Fabrizio Mancini is a great example of an author who is excited to share what he's learned and what is working in his life. I am going to check out his book and I look forward to hearing him talk in person.
Afternoon Keynotes:
Alex Woodard
5:00 P.M.-5:30 P.M. ALEX WOODARD For The Sender
Alex Woodard is the author of a book titled "For The Sender." Alex was feeling sad about having to let go of his best friend of 15 years, a Labrador named Kona, when he recieved a letter that would change his life.
What started out as the desire to write a song based on this letter turned into a book and album package about real-life letters and now features Grammy-winning artists and a live show that has inspired thousands of people in its first few months.
The woman who started all of this is a woman named Emily. During the talk Alex showed a video during a visit to Emily to perform the songs live for her.
Emily told Alex, in her letter to him, that she felt his songs were pieces of himself and she wanted to give him a piece of herself in return. Emily has written a letter to her soul mate every Autumn - ever since he passed away. The letter from Emily to her soul mate was beautifully written and I can see why it inspired Alex to write her a song.
I am curious to read the book "For The Sender" and I would also love to hear the album that comes with it!
Dr. Brian Weiss
5:30 P.M.-7:00 P.M. DR. BRIAN WEISS Many Lives, Many Masters: Finding New Levels of Healing
Dr. Brian Weiss is the author of "Many Lives, Many Masters: Finding New Levels of Healing." I've heard great things about Dr. Weiss for many years but had not heard him speak before. I was curious to find out what it he had to say.
Dr. Weiss does "past life therapy" and he has a waiting list of over 10,000 people!!
During this 2-hour workshop, Dr. Weiss had us close our eyes and listen as he did a guided meditation. I was amazed that the 30 minutes felt like only about 10 minutes. It felt really good. I felt both relaxed and inspired after it.
Dr. Weiss asked us to write a few notes about what we had seen, felt, and heard while he was talking. I wrote: Warm, golden light. Love, Joy, Mom. Teaching - Susie Smart doll. Water - Ranch (irrigation streams). Silent Night & Joy to the World. I am Love, Light, Joy. I am a teacher. I am a Mom. I am Golden Light.
What does it mean? I don't know but I know that I feel good when I read the words I felt inspired to write after coming out of the guided meditation!
I enjoyed "attending" the workshop by Live Video Stream and it made me curious to attend a live event with Dr. Weiss.
7:00 P.M.- 8:30 P.M. - Dinner Break
Doreen Virtue and Michael
8:30 P.M.-10:00 P.M. Evening Keynote: DOREEN VIRTUE Healing Help and Guidance from Your Angels
Doreen Virtue is beautiful and inspiring. She always reminds me of an Angel. During this talk, which I "attended" by Live Video Stream, she had her fiancee Michael playing keyboards and also joining in to answer some of the questions.
Later in the talk, Doreen also had her son, Charles Virtue, talk with us about signs from Angels - "Signs From Above." Charles lives in LA and he says that "signs from above" can come in the form of a sign along the highway, a movie, or a song. The "sign" can help you know if you are on the right path. He also said that Angels teach us to take responsibility for our thoughts. Like his Mom, Charles teaches Angel Therapy.
Angel Tarot Cards by Doreen Virtue & Radleigh Valentine
Doreen also had Radleigh Valentine with her to talk about their new Tarot card deck that is "100 percent gentle, safe, and trustworthy." They said that all of the words in the deck as well as the artwork by Steve A. Roberts, are positive and beautiful, while still retaining the magical effectiveness of traditional tarot. I am not experienced with tarot but I have to say that the cards they showed us - on a large screen behind them - were beautiful and inspiring. I am curious to see the new card deck and would like to get one.
Doreen Virtue is inspiring, uplifting, and gentle. She has an aura of love, light, and peacefulness about her. I've now been to a couple of Doreen's live talks and two as "Live Stream Video" and each time I've felt inspired, uplifted, and glad to have heard her talk.
Kriss Carr
SUNDAY, October 28 8:30 A.M. - 10:00 A.M. Keynote: KRIS CARR From Illness to Activist
Kriss Carr is a "crazy, sexy, cancer survivor" who teaches an anti-inflammatory way of eating - and living. Kriss was 31 years old when she was told she had cancer.
Kriss had been an actress, dancer, and a bar tender in a blues bar in New York. She told us that she knew she was destined for something big - but she had no idea what it would be that she was supposed to do. Before the wake-up call from the Universe, she had been looking for ways to numb out, looking for love in her life with alcohol, recreational drugs, and men. She'd been "spinning out of control" and had felt quite uncomfortable in her own skin.
Now Kriss seems to feel very comfortable in her own skin. She comes across as authentic and likable - funny and unique - all great traits for a speaker. She talked about how we can choose to pay attention to what we are eating, drinking, and thinking. She also reminded us that stress lowers our immune system.
Kriss said to really listen to our body and then asked us, what do you hear? She gave examples of what your body might be saying to you: "I'm ready for a change. I'm hungry. I want to feel good. I want more rest. Have some fun!! Help me, nourish me. I would love to be a priority in your life." What does your body say to you? What does your body need to feel vibrant and fully alive?
Kriss has a new book out titled "Crazy Sexy Kitchen" which is what she was talking about during this workshop. I don't have it yet but I am curious to see it. Feeling healthy, vibrant, and full of life is how I want to feel. How about you?
Geneen Roth
10:30 A.M. – 12:30 P.M Workshop GENEEN ROTH Women, Food, and God: A Transformational Path
Geneen Roth started by having us take a breath and check in. She wanted us to feel our feet, ankles, the earth - to arrive where we were. She wanted us to notice our breathing. What I found was that when she had us do this it did make me more aware of where I was and how my breathing can make me feel. Taking long, slow, deep breaths made me feel in the moment and more relaxed. Taking shallow, small breaths makes me feel disconnected from life and from the present moment.
Next Geneen told us a little bit about her story in regards to food. She told us that in her late 20s she was so tired of dieting that she felt she would rather die than either keep dieting or be fat. WOW.
Geneen also told us that at one point she had managed to get her weight down to 80-82 lbs. But then she went off the diet and began to binge. Within two months she had doubled her weight!! Hearing her story made me realize that our choices of what to eat and how much we eat can make a huge difference.
When you change the way you look at things they can change. In order to change beliefs that are causing us to gain weight we need to know what we believe so we can question whether it is helping us or hurting us.
Geneen asked the audience to get in pairs to talk about why they were there. When she asked that I was not able to "pair up" with anyone because I was watching the live video of the workshop. I liked the part where Geneen talked with members of the audience who were willing to tell her why they were there. One woman said she was all or nothing - black or white and that she wants to be comfortable. Another woman said she was feeling exhausted and was ready to stop trying to find out what is wrong with her.
What Geneen pointed out to them was that "what's possible together" is much more than we can create on our own. Having the support of a group can make the difference when you are trying to shift how you think, how you feel, and how you behave.
I found it interesting that Geneen said that happiness and joy can seem too threatening to some people. Then she asked, "Who wouldn't like you if you were too happy, too successful, too joyful?" Hearing her ask that made me realize that sometimes we will try to keep ourselves from being different than the people we know. It made me realize that having the support of a group would help you feel better about making progress.
What we say to ourselves was another area she covered. She asked the audience to write 10 things they had said to themselves that day. Listen to a couple of the answers:
"I can't believe you _______!" "When are you going to give up?"
She told us that if you want to change you must be aware of this voice and how you feel. The exercise was to make us aware of what we say to ourselves so we can begin to say things that help us feel good, feel encouraged, and notice what is going right in our life.
Another exercise she did was to give the audience members a "cup of food" and she had each person take out one item at a time, look at it, smell it, taste it, and take time to eat it. Since I was watching on the video I didn't have the food but I imagined myself doing what she was having them do. It made us more aware of the taste, the texture, the feel of eating the food. It gave people a chance to think about how good it really did, or did not taste. As she said, when you pay attention something different happens.
What I felt was that the workshop did cause me to eat more slowly, to notice more of how things taste and notice that tiny bites can have a lot of flavor. It seems to me that attending a workshop with Geneen Roth could be helpful in shifting how you think about food, how you think about yourself, and how you behave when eating. I am glad to have "attended" this workshop by live video stream.
12:30 P.M. - 2:30 P.M. - Lunch Break
Debbie Ford
2:30 P.M. - 4:30 P.M. Workshop DEBBIE FORD Courage: Overcoming Fear & Igniting Self-Confidence
Debbie Ford began by asking if we were great procrastinators. Because I was "attending" by live video stream I could not see how many hands went up but my guess is quite a few.
To go beyond our wildest dreams Debbie says it takes giving up excuses and it takes knowing it's not going to get better without you taking actions. She said when we feel like fear is running our life we have to have faith. She says we can embrace our fear, love our fear, and that fear can be good and that healthy fear can help keep us safe. Toxic fear, she says, is what keeps us from taking action, prevents us from taking risks, and it keeps us from our own magnificence.
Debbie asked us, "How many of you are bored or boring?" Then she asked us to say, with her, "I'm hot! I'm sexy! I'm delicious!" Then she went on to tell a story about one of her assistants who was wearing "man clothes" when she first starting working for Debbie. The woman's mom had told her, years ago, that she would never be pretty. Debbie helped her shift her belief by buying her clothes, shoes, and a new haircut.
Debbie asked the audience, "What actions keep you small?" Some of the answers I heard were: Drinking, procrastinating, not making decisions, negative self-talk, people-pleasing, over-working, not growing, too much TV, and doubting. How many of us can say none of those things are keeping us small? It does take courage to admit the truth to yourself and then begin to make decisions and take actions to be who you want to be – who you know in your heart you can be.
Debbie said that many people fear that if they don't stay small their friends and family members won't love them or would feel jealous. It is sad to think people would feel that way but I've seen it happen myself. Once family and friends get used to you being "bigger" than you've been before it can work out well. But because feeling loved and accepted is so important it can prevent some people from even attempting to grow.
I loved that Debbie Ford told us that she always has a coach because she's lazy and she needs people around her to keep her growing. I've found it to be true as well that having a coach can keep you moving forward and help you feel inspired to keep going and growing. As Debbie said, "Coaching yourself will keep you where you've been." As a Life Coach, I agree with Debbie. If you want to grow it really helps to have a coach!
Debbie asked us to commit to the following. I hope you'll commit to it by writing it with your name in it. I've done it and seeing it written with my name in it does inspire me.
I, _______________, commit to living my most courageous life. I will stop letting my past define who I am. I will honor my authentic self. I will listen to the voice of my most courageous self. I will each moment choose choices that leave me feeling strong.
As Debbie Ford said, our time on the planet is running out. Decide to go for it. Allow people to know you. Be who you are even if that means you need to let go of some people you know because they want you to stay the same. It seems to me that having the courage to be yourself is the only way to truly be happy.
In summary, I am glad to have "attended" Debbie Ford's workshop with the live video feed.
Bruce Lipton
5:00 P.M.-6:30 P.M. Closing Keynote: BRUCE H. LIPTON The Science of Personal and Global Transformation
Bruce H.
Lipton, PhD. is an internationally recognized leader in bridging science
and spirit. He is also known for groundbreaking stem-cell research at
Stanford University. I had heard Bruce speak about "The Biology of Belief" and also heard him speak about what he calls "The Honeymoon Effect" last year at the Pasadena I CAN DO IT!
One of the things I loved about watching by live video was that I could take "screen shots" of some of the slides. Dr. Lipton shows many PowerPoint slides during his talks. He also speaks very quickly because he has so much he wants to tell us. I found that hearing him speak again helped me understand more of what he had said the previous times I've heard him speak. I am glad to also have the video of his talk on the USB wristband so I can re-watch and pause it while I consider what he is saying.
I've included "screen shots" of three of his slides, below.
I find it interesting to hear that when we get too busy our mind is "wandering" and we don't have control so the subconscious mind takes over. In order to use the conscious part of our mind we must be in our present moment and paying attention. Dr. Lipton says our conscious mind is not time bound – it can think about the past or jump ahead to think about the future. When we are thinking about times other than the present moment our subconscious mind takes over. In this subconscious part of our mind can be all sorts of habitual ways of responding that may not get us the results we want. I found what he was saying to be of great importance in understanding why we respond as we do.
Luckily, Dr. Lipton says it is possible to "re-write" our subconscious beliefs so they are really your own choices instead of whatever your mind recorded while you were growing up. I am really curious to read Dr. Lipton's new book, "The Honeymoon Effect" which is due to be released in May 2013.
In conclusion, I must say that I enjoyed "attending" the 2012 Pasadena "I CAN DO IT!" by watching the Live Video Stream. This way of "attending" allows people who can't attend in person to experience live feed of the conference. My first choice would be to attend the conference in person because it gives you a chance to meet the authors, talk to them, and feel a greater connection with them. It's also fun meeting people from all over the world at the live events. If you can go in person, I highly recommend you do it!
If you can't attend in person I highly recommend watching the Live Video Stream on your computer. I also recommend purchasing the USB wristband so you can hear the audios of the speakers and re-watch your favorite authors's videos on your computer!
Dr. Wayne Dyer has done it again! What an interesting book!
To be honest, I've read and enjoyed every book by Dr. Wayne Dyer so I was excited to see it when it arrived, and I am pleased to be able to review it.
The title WISHES Fulfilled sounded interesting. I was curious to hear Wayne Dyer's new thoughts and new stories.
I was also curious to read it because of an inspiring woman I met at the "Ignite I Can Do It!" in San Jose, California, March 17-18, 2012. Her name is Virginia Hummel and she was sitting next to me the first day of the conference.
"Ignite I Can Do It!" San Jose, CA March 2012 Margaux Joy DeNador & Virginia Hummel
I was fascinated by Virginia's knowledge of orbs. She showed me the photo she had taken which was published in WISHES Fulfilled. During the conference Virginia took many more photos and showed me the orbs that were in them.
In WISHES Fulfilled Dr. Dyer tells some interesting stories about orbs and has photos in the book so you can see them. I love that one of the orb photos in the book was taken by Virginia!
I enjoyed the new stories Wayne tells in this book. The stories are incredible, amazing, and inspiring. I loved how reading this book made me feel.
Reading this book has also changed forever how I feel about the words I AM.
For years I'd heard it said that what we say after the words "I AM" was important and this book has helped me understand the power of those two words.
Now that I've read this book, I will always be careful what I say after those two powerful words – I AM.
What do YOU say after the words I AM?
Wayne Dyer suggests we say:
I AM STRONG I AM WORTHY I AM INFINITE I AM LOVE I AM GOD
Yes, Dr. Dyer says we are to say, "I AM GOD." WOW.
Depending on your beliefs this may be too far out of your comfort zone. But after years of reading Wayne Dyer's books, and hearing him speak live at "I Can Do It!" conferences it feels like the next logical step.
Wayne Dyer has said for years that we have God in us - now he is saying that when you say the words "I AM" you are saying the words that mean God. He says we need to be careful what we say after these two powerful words.
For example God – or Source – would never say anything "bad" or "negative" after the words I AM.
Dr. Dyer says we can change our self concept to include the fact that we have God in us and that we can do amazing things if we believe we can do them.
The book is divided into two parts.
Part one is about "The Higher Aspects of Yourself" Changing Your Concept of Yourself Your Higher Self Your Highest Self
Part two of the book is about "The Five Wishes Fulfilled Foundations" Using Your Imagination Live from the End Feeling It Your Attention Please Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep
Seeing the five "Wishes Fulfilled Foundations" in this list helps me remember what I learned while reading the book.
Dr. Dyer emphasizes it is really important to spend the last five minutes before going to sleep imagining and feeling your wish as if it has already been fulfilled. This final "pep talk" to your subconscious mind is the last thing you do before going to sleep. During the next few hours your subconscious mind thinks about whatever you put into it just before sleep.
Following are a few inspiring quotes from the book:
Quotes by Dr. Dyer:
"Let your imagination explore the invisible realm in a way that you will allow this new energy to permeate your life, move to a place within yourself where Wishes Fulfilled is a new way of being rather than just the title of a book."
"A new self-concept begins with you placing it in your imagination and living from this new perspective."
"By placing new I AMs into my imagination, my future dream is a present fact."
"Here, you are creating an ideal of what you want to be and assuming that you already are that person. This is what Neville calls the Law of Assumption and he states emphatically, 'If this assumption is persisted in until it becomes your dominant feeling, the attainment of your ideal is inevitable.'"
"Remind yourself that your imagination is yours to use as you decide, and that everything you wish to manifest into your physical world must first be placed firmly in your imagination in order to grow."
"This Divine force awaits your imaginative energy. It can quite easily send the right people at the right time."
Quotes by Neville that Dr. Dyer included in this book:
"A change of feeling is a change of destiny."
"The feeling which comes in response to the question, 'How would I feel were my wish realized?' is the feeling which should monopolize and immobilize your attention as you relax into sleep. You must be in the consciousness of being or having that which you want to be or have before you drop off to sleep."
I am happy to say that I am glad to have read Dr. Dyer's new book so I could review it for Hay House Publishing. I highly recommend buying this book.

After hearing the audio recording of Michelle Phillips’ talk at the Tampa, Florida, “I Can Do It!” conference, I was curious to read her book. The title, "The Beauty Blueprint – 8 Steps to Building the Life and Look of Your Dreams” intrigued me. But when I saw her book's cover with its beautiful colors and artistic use of photography and fonts, I knew I just had to read it!
In the book, Michelle combines what she has learned as a makeup artist and beauty and life coach to help people create a "Beauty Blueprint" that expresses who they are inside. Michelle helps her clients, and the people who read her book, remember what matters most to them. She helps her readers understand the essence of their values in order to express themselves with the colors, clothes, hairstyles, hair color, makeup, and the accessories they choose.
One of my favorite chapters in the book is titled "Dream a Beautiful Future." It starts with a quote by Carl Jung that says, "The dream is the small hidden door in the deepest and most intimate sanctum of the soul." In this chapter, Michelle explains that she has found that many people have a hard time letting themselves dream freely. Perhaps this is because so many of us have been told what limitations we have or how hard it would be to do what we dreamed of doing, being, having, giving, and living. Some of these beliefs we pick up while we are young but as an adult there are plenty of people who are willing to tell us why we can't do something or that something can't be done.
Michelle has a wonderful exercise in this chapter called "Wave Your Magic Wand." This exercise involves using your imagination and waving a magic wand allowing you to imagine your options as unlimited. Michelle teaches us that if it's totally possible, it's not really a dream. It's just something practical for you to do or achieve. As Michelle says, "It gives your heart permission to come out and play and whispers to us what is hidden deep inside." I loved how this exercise made me feel. It inspired me to dream with no boundaries or limits. It was fun and enlightening.
Michelle gives an example of the "Beautiful Future" she wrote about in her journal. Her honesty about where she was when she began to allow herself to dream – and how her written dreams began to come true – inspired me.
Looking at someone like Michelle Phillips, it's easy to think her life has always been perfect, that she always had known what she most wanted, who she was inside, and that she had always just been "lucky." But her honesty about her mistakes and challenges along with stories she shares about how she became who she is today are inspiring and encourage those reading her book to let themselves remember what matters most to them, and how they most want to live their lives.
I am including, here, an audio recording of my April 10, 2012, interview with Michelle Phillips so you can hear her passion. To listen, just click on the gray bar. If you need to pause it, just click the blue bar and click again when you want to re-start it. The interview was inspiring and fun. It's around 12 minutes in length, so listen when you have time.
Another favorite chapter of mine is titled, "Look in the Mirror." It begins with a quote that says, "The best mirror is an old friend." Because Michelle is a makeup artist, it would seem the chapter is about looking in a mirror at yourself. But "Look in the Mirror" is actually about the "mirror" of the people in your life.
Michelle says, "Through my work, I've learned that the people around you act as mirrors, reflecting your inner beliefs and emotions. Who have you placed around you, and what are they revealing about your state of mind?"
The people we choose to spend time with have a huge effect on how we feel. The exercise in this chapter, "Check Your Mirrors", is a great reminder to pay attention to who is in your “Circle of Influence”. I totally agree that it is important to surround yourself with people who bring out the best in you.
Years ago I studied fashion color analysis because I love color. But the way they taught us to choose colors for people was ALL based on what they looked like on the outside. Because I am a blonde, I was told that I was never to wear black and that I "should" wear navy blue, light blues, and pinks. But I hate wearing those colors! The colors they chose for me made me feel sick and as if I was wearing someone else's clothes. I wasted money on those clothes and since then have always chosen colors by how I feel when I wear them.
Michelle's book "The Beauty Blueprint" is about aligning your appearance with who you are inside. As Michelle says, clothing and makeup colors must express who we are inside. They must feel right to us for us to feel beautiful and to enjoy wearing them.
Just before the end of the book, Michelle has included the following: "How to Buy Designer Clothes for Much Less," How to Apply Your Makeup Like a Pro," and also answers "Frequently Asked Fashion Questions."
Reading this book reminded me of things I've learned over the years about what it takes to look and feel my best. It also got me to have fun dreaming during the "wave your magic wand" exercise.
Michelle writes in an authentic, likable, sometimes funny, and unique voice – her voice. You'll be able to hear the passion and enthusiasm in her voice if you listen to the recording I've included above.
Am I glad I read this book? YES!! If you would like to build the life and look of your dreams, you'll want to buy this book.

San Jose, California – I Can Do It Ignite – Speakers
Review by Margaux Joy DeNador – April 2012
When I heard that Hay House would be having a different format for the "I CAN DO IT!" conference with "Ignite!" in the event name, I became very curious and decided I wanted to attend it. I've always enjoyed the previous "I CAN DO IT!" conferences but I wondered what it would be like to have so many new authors speak – for 20 minutes each – one right after the other in this new format.
The event was held March 17-18, 2012, at the San Jose Center for Performing Arts in San Jose, California.
I must admit that I wondered if I would like this new format. I also wondered if I would enjoy hearing so many new authors. What I discovered was that Hay House made a great choice in hosting this new event.
During this inspiring new event format, inspiring authors Louise Hay, Dr. Wayne Dyer, Cheryl Richardson, Doreen Virtue, and Denise Linn shared the stage with 21 passionate and interesting new Hay House authors.
Dr. Wayne Dyer
Dr. Wayne Dyer spoke from 9-12:00 on Saturday, March 17th. The title of Wayne's talk was Wishes Fulfilled: Master the Art of Manifesting. Wayne was joined by Anita Moorjani, author of "Dying to Be Me." Anita's story is amazing and inspiring. Wayne was also joined by his daughter, Skye Dyer, who sang two songs, "The Greatest Love" by Whitney Houston and "Leader of the Band" by Dan Fogelberg, during his talk. I enjoyed Wayne's talk, hearing Anita Moorjani's story, and hearing Skye sing. It was an enjoyable three hours and seemed to go by very quickly.
Following Dr. Dyer's talk we had a lunch break from 12:00-1:30 pm. Next there were ten inspiring new authors doing 20-minute talks. The speakers after his talk, along with their speech titles, were as follows: Gabrielle Bernstein, Spirit Junkie - Access Untapped Inspiration and Become a Magnet for Miracles; Nancy Levin, Writing for My Life; Dave Carroll, The Power of One Voice In The Age of Social Media; Agapi Stassinopulus, Unbinding the Heart: Creating Your Own Portable Paradise; Jessica Ortner, The One Hour Apprentice; Kate Northrup, Money: A Love Story; Nick Ortner, Use EFT to Clear Patterns of Self-Sabotage Forever; Michael Chase, A Revolution of the Heart: Igniting the Power of Kindness Within; Denise Linn, Past Life Hyper-Time: Release Limitations and Activate Your Spiritual Path; Kris Carr, From Illness to Activist.
Doreen Virtue
There was a dinner break from 5:30 - 7:00 and then we were back in the auditorium to enjoy hearing Doreen Virtue from 7:00 - 8:30 pm. The title of Doreen's talk was Healing, Help, and Guidance from Your Angels. Doreen looked like a beautiful blonde mermaid angel. I am glad to have attended her talk. I left feeling uplifted, encouraged, and happy.
After the first day I was feeling inspired, energized, happy, and tired all at the same time! Luckily I had decided to stay at the Hilton Hotel with the others who were attending the event so it was an easy walk across the street to get back to our hotel rooms. I was so glad to have come to the event and was excited to see Louise Hay and Cheryl Richardson speaking together first thing the next morning!
Cheryl Richardson & Louise Hay
Sunday, March 18th our morning began with Louise Hay and Cheryl Richardson speaking together from 9-10:30 am. The title of their talk was, Holding Steady in Times of Change. When I heard them speak together at the Pasadena I CAN DO IT! in October and also watched and listened to them on the live video stream from the Tampa, Florida I CAN DO IT! in November 2011 the talks were focused on their book You Can Create an Exceptional Life. This talk had a focus we can all relate to – feeling better about all of the changes that are going on in our lives. Louise and Cheryl are so much fun together! Hearing them speak and watching them interact with each other and the audience was fun!
Louise and Cheryl were followed by a break, three inspiring speakers, a lunch break, and then ten more inspiring speakers all doing 20-minute talks. The Sunday afternoon speakers and their speech titles were as follows:
Michael Eisen, Empowered YOUth; Sarah De Anna, The Healthy Secrets to Becoming Model Skinny; Michelle Phillips, Finding Your True Beauty; Barbara Carrellas, Ecstasy is Necessary; Lissa Rankin M.D., Diagnose The REAL Reason You're Sick; Louann Brizendine, M.D., The Love Brain; Danielle LaPorte, The Strategy of Desire; Alisa Vitti, The FLO Living Method: Your Body as Your Partner to Health, Power, and Global Change; Latham Thomas, Ready, Set, GLOW! A Journey into Abundant Living, Spiritual Fitness, and Healthy Lifestyle; Tom Shadyac, What's Wrong with Our World and What We Can Do About It; Meggan Watterson, REVEAL Your Soul-Voice; and Congressman Tim Ryan, A Mindful Nation. The closing keynote speaker on Sunday was Kris Carr. The title of her speech was Crazy Sexy Life: Live Like You Mean It. The event concluded Sunday at 6:00 pm.
Before leaving to drive home, I saw Louise Hay talking with some people in the lobby of the hotel. I wanted to tell Louise how much I enjoyed the time I spent watching and listening to her and Cheryl Richarson. I also wanted to tell her how much I enjoyed this new kind of "I CAN DO IT" conference. Louise looked me in the eyes and said, "Did you hear all of the speakers?" My answer was yes I heard all of them. Louise gave me a big smile, with a twinkle in her eyes, and said, "I did too!"
The Hay House "I Can Do It!" conferences are a chance to observe some of the most inspiring speakers I've ever encountered all in one place. It is also wonderful to be there in person and meet some of my favorite authors and speakers – to be able to talk with them, hug them, and get to know them. As an author and speaker myself, I find these conferences inspiring and a great learning experience as a speaker as well. Being a Hay House author and speaker would definitely be a dream come true! Every speaker I've met that is part of the Hay House family was someone I would love to know as a friend. Every speaker I met was inspiring, passionate, and kind.
I also love being at these events in person because of the people I meet while there. During this event I met several new people and two of the women I spent the most time with were authors and gave me copies of their books and I gave them mine. Being with so many like-minded and like-hearted people in one place is a wonderful feeling!
I enjoyed this conference, I am glad I decided to attend it, and I highly recommend it!
Following are ALL of the authors that spoke at the "I CAN DO IT Ignite!" in San Jose, California. You can click on the names below to read about each of the authors who spoke at this event.

When Hay House announced that they were going to do live video from the 2011 Tampa, Florida, "I CAN DO IT!" conference it became my heart's desire to watch it and review it. The idea of being able to "electronically attend" parts of the event live – to be able to see and hear it as it was happening – made me extremely curious. Because I've attended the "I CAN DO IT!" conference live, I wondered how different it would feel to watch it on my computer at home.
One of the things I love about being at the conference is being with so many other positive people that are experiencing the same speakers and the feeling of being in the room with them. In a way it's like the difference between going to a movie at a theater versus watching it on your computer. One of the major differences is that at the conference you meet people from all over the world who have traveled to be there.
But there are also interesting aspects of watching live stream video as well. One of the things that was fun was being able to watch in my PJs, fuzzy robe, and slippers. Because I am in California, the time difference meant being ready to watch at 5:30 am on Saturday and Sunday. Since I am a morning person, this was fairly easy for me.
For people who live in California or other areas west of Florida and prefer to get up late on weekends, the live video stream of the event would be a challenge. But if you purchase the live video stream you are able to watch the video as an "on demand" event one time for each keynote speaker or workshop.
Hay House also offered the option to purchase a USB wristband with the live stream videos and all of the audios for the conference. I am looking forward to having the USB wristband with the digital files so I can re-watch my favorite speakers over and over again. I like the idea of being able to hear the audio recordings of speakers I wasn't able to see on the video.
Being able to see and hear the speakers on the live stream video was wonderful. One of the benefits was being able to take "screen shots" of the speakers while they were on stage talking. At the live events taking photos is not allowed so this was one of the really cool things about watching the live video stream of the event. To give you an idea of what it's like to see the video stream, I've chosen a favorite "screen shot" of each speaker's talk and you can see them while reading the rest of this review.
Wayne Dyer with his daughter Skye Dyer - Friday 11.11.11
Friday Evening – Keynote Speaker – Wayne Dyer "Mastering the Art of Manifestation"
Dr. Wayne Dyer's live feed started around 4:45 pm. Unfortunately, I missed the first part of his talk.
He talked about the importance of "living from the end." You make your future dream a present fact by feeling your wish as being fulfilled.
Wayne believes that the last five minutes of the day are super important. During these five minutes, he suggests we feel our wish as fulfilled so our subconscious mind can "marinate" with those thoughts and feelings while we are asleep.
Wayne's talk in Tampa was similar to the one I experienced live in Pasadena but there were some major differences as well. The woman from Hong Kong wasn't at the Tampa conference. Also, the young comedian that was in Pasadena wasn't at this event either. Skye Dyer was at both events and she sang two songs during Wayne's keynote speech. The first song she sang was "Let it Be" and the second song was "The Leader of the Band" which she sang to her dad. I always enjoy hearing Skye sing!
There were a few minor glitches with the live stream during this speech. Luckily Wayne's talk is available as on-demand for 90 days and there are also digital files of his talk on the USB band from the conference.
Louise Hay and Cheryl Richardson - Saturday 11.12.11
Saturday Morning Keynote Speakers – Louise Hay & Cheryl Richardson "Spiritual Tools for Living an Exceptional Life"
Seeing and hearing Louise Hay and Cheryl Richardson together again was wonderful. One of the reasons I most wanted to watch the live video stream was to see and hear them together again. They were just as delightful this time as they were at the Pasadena event in October.
Louise started out by saying, "I am 85 and very alive!" Louise looked beautiful in her tunic of aqua to green to warm yellow. She has more enthusiasm and energy than many people do when they are 50 or more years younger than Louise is now.
Louise and Cheryl were having so much FUN!!! Because they were having such a good time, it was great FUN watching and listening even though I had seen them do their talk in Pasadena. Both times their conversation with each other and the audience came across as sincere, authentic, spontaneus, playful, and fun-loving. They make a delightful and inspiring team.
Louise and Cheryl talked about the affirmations in the "I CAN DO IT!" page-a-day calendar. Louise said the calendars sell out quickly so it's a good idea to order one soon for 2012.
"I love people who are always learning and practicing. Just because you know it doesn't mean you're practicing it." Louise Hay is so right about this point as well. There is a huge difference in "knowing" something and practicing it. The ideas are simple but they do require practice.
Because of writing their book, You Can Create an Exceptional Life, they were so much more aware of what they were thinking, what they were saying, and how it was making them feel.
Louise and Cheryl were allowing themselves to be silly and funny. The playful attitude was evident from the joy they projected along with Louise's foot bobbing in glee. I loved being able to watch and listen to them again!!! What an inspiring talk! It was well worth being up early to watch them at 5:30 am!
Deborah King - Saturday 11.12.11
Saturday Morning Workshop – Deborah King "Be Your Own Shaman"
It was interesting to experience Deborah King on the live video stream and compare it to seeing her live at the Pasadena conference.
She started this talk about her book, Be Your Own Shaman, by telling us she was having a drawing for two iPads, one for the live event and one for people who were watching the live video stream.
Deborah had been a lawyer with a stressful life and then found out she had cancer. She stepped off the "fast track" and took a look at herself. She had been someone who had been into high speed, high risk sports, promiscuity, anything to keep from feeling her emotions. She realized she needed to get in touch with her emotions. She started with a 12-Step program. She picked AA. She says there isn't one of us that doesn't have some sort of addiction.
Deborah encouraged us to get in touch with our emotions with a journal or even the computer – something where you are using your arms. She said to type or write as fast as you can write or as fast as you can type.
Deborah looked happy and like she was enjoying herself. I actually enjoyed the live video of her workshop more than I did the one live in Pasadena. Why? It just seemed like she was enjoying herself more for this workshop which made it more enjoyable to watch.
Doreen Virtue - Saturday 11.12.11
Saturday Afternoon Workshop – Doreen Virtue "Connecting with the Angels of Health, Happiness, and High Energy"
Doreen Virtue came onto the stage to an audience that was excited to be with her. The view of the audience showed them standing up to welcome her. For years I had been curious about Doreen and why she was so popular. Now, after having been in her workshop at the Pasadena, California, "I CAN DO IT!" and watching the live video stream of her workshop in Tampa, Florida, it is easy to understand why.
Doreen looks like an angel, and she talks about angels. Hearing her describe how the angels are messagers and that we all have at least two guardian angels made me even more curious to learn more from her.
Doreen talked about her book, "Angel Words" and made me very curious about it. Doreen's son Grant – who runs her website and records her podcasts – has a computer program that records visuals of sound. He worked with her to create this book.
One example from the book was about Anna Taylor who is a friend of mine. Doreen showed slides before and after changing what Anna was saying to herself. Once she began to affirm, "I am a talented singer." Her voice improved, she recorded an album, and began to sing live at a variety of events. Anna is a talented singer. I am glad Doreen encouraged her to affirm it and believe it!
Doreen reminded us that the angels love to help us but we have to ASK them before they can do it.
Doreen is beautiful, kind, sensitive, and fun. I thoroughly enjoyed both her live workshop in Pasadena and this "live video stream" way of seeing her.
Gregg Braden - Saturday 11.12.11
Saturday Evening Keynote Speaker – Gregg Braden "Deep Truth: Igniting the Memory of Our Origin, History, Destiny and Fate"
Gregg Braden combines science and spirituality. He talked quite a bit about the changes in what scientists used to believe versus what is thought to be true now.
This talk was based on his book "Deep Truth" — which I have not read.
Gregg Braden's talk was very similar to his talk in Pasadena with one major difference – in Pasadena he had his wife come onstage to sing and play guitar. I really liked this part at the Pasadena conference and missed seeing it during the Tampa "live video."
Toward the end of his talk, Gregg talked about feeling gratitude, appreciation, and how this is a way we can create coherence. I wish he had spent less time on what he considers to be problems and more time on how we can make a difference. I found it inspiring to know we can make a positive difference by how we choose to think and through expressing our gratitude and appreciation.
Caroline Myss - Sunday 11.13.11
Sunday Morning Keynote Speaker – Caroline Myss "Exploring the Power and Mystery of Prayer"
Caroline Myss has been in the field of energy medicine and human consciousness for over 20 years. She has worked as a medical intuitive, and specializes in helping people and providing people with insights into their "energetic" system. In her book, "Defy Gravity," she talks about the relationship between what she calls "seven shadow passions" and "seven inner graces."
Because Caroline is both interesting and sometimes a bit confusing, I am glad to have the on-demand video available for 90 days so I can watch it again later.
I loved it when she asked the audience, "How many of you have a mind that never deceives you?" and then she went on to say, "You better not raise your hand for that one, or I'll be all over you like a June bug!"
Caroline Myss is funny because she says what she really thinks instead of saying what she thinks we will be happy to hear. She seems to tell it as she feels it – and I feel I can trust her to tell me what she really thinks, what she really feels, what she has learned, and why she feels that way.
"Every choice that you make sets a cycle in motion." Caroline reminded us that we need to become conscious about the choices we make while we are making them. The key word here is conscious but she's also saying while we are making them – not just after we have made them!
I took notes while she was saying a prayer. I like it and wanted to share it with you here.
Let me feel reverence for my life. Give me the courage to see you in other people. Let me see your goodness in other people. Grant me the grace of understanding. Grant me the grace to understand why other people are in my life. Grant me the grace of sharing my gifts. Grant me the grace to be honest with myself and others. Grant me the grace of knowledge. Help me to make wise choices for myself and others.
Caroline ended the prayer by saying, "Let grace heal you and heal the people around you." Caroline got a standing ovation for her talk.
Denise Linn - Sunday 11.13.11
Sunday Afternoon Workshop – Denise Linn "Past Lives/Present Miracles"
Denise Linn started out with a drum and calling spirit into the room.
"My peeps… who here are my radio peeps… who here has never met me before… who doesn't even know why they are here?" Denise has a warm, inviting personality. I had been curious about her for years and was pleased to find myself liking her from the start. This talk was based on her book, "Past Lives, Present Miracles."
Denise said it was her first time doing live streaming video. It was the first time that Hay House has done the live video stream from an "I CAN DO IT!" conference so it was a first for the speakers and for all of us who were able to watch it live. One of the first things Denise did was ask us to do the following: "Now focus on yourself… what is remarkable about you… what is your gift to the world… Blessings for the journey… Imagine it radiating out from your body as a wonderful, warm light… Intend this… Imagine this… Step into LOVE…"
In my notes I wrote, "I love this… WOW… I see why Denise is so popular!!!" "Why not be open to the possibility that it is time for things to shift for you? If your mind says it can't happen in two hours, say thank you mind."Denise told stories of people who met in her workshops and helped each other heal. (In my opinion one of the big benefits of going to the live workshops is that you meet people there and those people can make a big difference in your life!) We did a couple of guided meditations during which there were beautiful images on the screen. I enjoyed both of them.
Watching the live video stream made me feel inspired to do a workshop with Denise in person at one of the next "I CAN DO IT!" conferences!
Denise got a standing ovation at the end of her talk. I can see why!
Joan Borysenko - Sunday 11.13.11
Sunday Afternoon Workshop – Joan Borysenko "Fried: Why You Burn Out and How to Revive"
Joan asked if anyone in the audience was feeling "fried" and lots of hands went up. The workshop was based on her book, "Fried: Why You Burn Out and How to Revive" so it attracted people who were feeling "fried" and wanted to know what to do about it. Joan asked us: "What makes you feel most alive? What drains you? What does your soul long for?" All three questions are worth answering. Joan is beautiful, kind, and gentle, and she seemed to be helping the people in the audience.
She said, "It's important to be compassionate toward yourself." Joan made the following suggestions: Keep track of what drains you. Keep track of what revives you.
She also said that we are meant to be in harmony with nature. She believes that if we have more time in nature there would be less ADD for children and adults. She said to appreciate the sky, the flowers, the trees, and being outside.
She reminded us that we can put our attention wherever we like. She had us put our attention on our breath. She talked about "spokes of attention" and says you can withdraw your attention from the outside of the wheel and put your attention back on the "hub" of the wheel. The thing to remember is that we have a choice as to where we focus our attention.
If you've been feeling "fried" and want to revive, I recommend checking out Joan's book and her workshops!
Marianne Williamson - Sunday 11.13.11
Sunday Afternoon Keynote Speaker – Marianne Williamson "A Course in Weight Loss"
This was the last of the live video stream for the Tampa "I CAN DO IT!" conference. It was based on Marianne Williamson's book, and CDs, "A Course in Weight Loss."
Marianne talked about how she used to have some problems with her weight before she began to study "A Course in Miracles." She says that the excess flesh she was carrying around was like a wall around her to protect herself. The idea is to learn to love yourself and to free yourself from fear by focusing on love.
If we feel we need protection, or feel self-rejection, we will be more likely to eat more than we need to have a lean and healthy body.
I've written a review of the book and audio CDs for "A Course in Weight Loss: 21 Spiritual Lessons for Surrendering Your Weight Forever." What I realized while listening to the CDs of the book was that they can be helpful for more than just weight loss. They can also inspire you to let go of other habits by looking at them, yourself, and life in some new ways. To read my review of "A Course in Weight Loss" by Marianne, click on the link above.
In conclusion, I must say that I truly enjoyed watching the Tampa "I CAN DO IT!" Live Stream Video and hope that they continue with this new technology because it allows me to experience live feed of the conferences that I can't attend in person. I did notice that I got the most from the workshops and authors whose books I had read. I do recommend reading the authors' books before either attending the live conferences or watching the live stream video.
Also, I like the idea of being able to buy a USB wristband with all of the workshops on it so I can play them over again because many were so inspiring!
My curiosity about "Shift Happens!" started while listening to Robert Holden's keynote speech at the 2011 Pasadena "I CAN DO IT!" conference.
My friend, Linda, bought his CDs for "Shift Happens!" We enjoyed listening to some of Robert's stories on our way home from the conference. What we found is that listening to Robert Holden reading "Shift Happens!" with a friend is fun. We liked being able to stop the CD and talk about what he said and what his stories caused us to remember from our own life experiences. CDs rock!
Because we only heard two of the CDs on our way back, I was curious to hear the rest of them. I also became curious to read the book. Because of my curiosity I asked Hay House if I could review both the book and the CDs. I am happy that they sent me both to review!
What I love about listening to the CDs of "Shift Happens!" is the combination of Robert Holden's gentle-sounding English voice and his creative way of making his points with plays on words and inspiring stories.
The text on the back of the book says: Shift Happens! is a book about "more" – more happiness, more success, more love, more peace, more prosperity, and more being the real you.
In this book Robert Holden shares ways to let go of fears, struggle, and trying to do it all by yourself. He also discusses other blocks to happiness. The book is powerful, creative, and can help transform the way you think about yourself and your life.
I like Robert Holden's sense of humor and his creative use of words.
I like his voice – he has a gentle sounding English voice. I found it enjoyable to listen to him tell his stories while driving my car.
I like both the book and the CDs.
I like the CDs because I can listen to the stories while I am doing errands or driving to or from work. I also like hearing the way Robert Holden adds his feelings to the book by reading it. I've always loved to hear my favorite authors read their books. Listening to them speaking on the CDs makes it easy to re-listen during times when I want some entertainment. I like listening in my car and also while I walk or spend time on our elliptical machine exercising.
The book gave me a chance to read what I had heard in the car and allowed me to highlight key points that I most want to remember. I also like seeing the words written and to be able to read a sentence or paragraph over if I want to really get what he is saying.
Robert Holden says that he has the following, which is in the book, on his computer as a screensaver reminder to always put love first. I like it and want to remember to do it myself so I want to share it here with you.
FIRST LOVE
First love, then think. First love, then speak. First love, then look. First love, then act. First love, then choose. First love, then give. First love, then live.
There is a prayer that one of Robert Holden's clients wrote about saying "YES" to life. The full prayer can be found on page 180 of his book.
I say "YES" to love today. I say "YES" to happiness today. I say "YES" to balance today. I say "YES" to me today. I say "YES" to miracles today. I say "YES" to life today.
One of the things I like about the CDs is that they have numbered each of the "chapters" to help you know where you are in the book. I wish there were "chapter numbers" in the book as well.
Following are a few of my favorite chapter titles in "Shift Happens!"
Happiness is an inner light with no off switch There are no events, only perceptions Keep smiling – unless you feel like crying Be the goal! Give up your fear of giving Stop improving your life – and start living! Fear is yesterday The world has finished with your past… if you have Forgiveness gives you wings Commit to living "happily even after" Shift happens – when you let go When you take a step, a bridge appears Exhaustion means there is a better way If you are alive, you need help! Some of the best gifts come badly wrapped Stay open all hours for miracles Your happiness is a gift
On the CDs and in the small book of 275 pages there are 55 chapters. The titles above remind me of the stories in each of the chapters. After having read the book and listened to the CDs, the titles are now reminders of the lessons and help me remember them.
The following is from the back cover of the book.
"Shift Happens! is about staying open all hours for miracles. Success, love, and happiness are only ever one thought away at most. One new perception, one fresh thought, one act of surrender, one change of heart, one leap of faith, can change your life forever."
The book is fresh, fun, and inspiring. It's a book I plan to keep handy to read again. I love the idea of reading one of the short essays each day. I am glad to have the CDs to hear while driving as well.
In conclusion, I am glad to have both the book and the CDs of "Shift Happens!" because it is great to listen to the CDs in the car and the book can be read one chapter per day to really savor the messages and put them into practice.
I highly recommend both the book and the CDs of "Shift Happens! How to Live an Inspired Life… Starting Right Now!"
When Hay House publishing told me they would like me to review the 2011 "I CAN DO IT!" conference in Pasadena, California, I felt very excited. I loved the idea of being able to share with others what what I enjoyed most and what it felt like to be at such an amazing event.
A treasured friend of mine, Linda Bray, heard I was going to the conference and she decided to get tickets so she could go with me. I met Linda at the 2008 Las Vegas "I CAN DO IT!" during Wayne Dyer's talk. The night I met her we noticed we had signed up for all of the same workshops! We've been friends ever since. This time we signed up for three of the same workshops so we had some time together and time apart. As Linda said, "The positive vibration throughout the conference center was palpable." Being with so many positive people is a wonderful feeling!
Following is a day-by-day description of what I saw, heard, felt, and thought during the 2011 "I CAN DO IT!" conference in Pasadena.
Friday, October 14, 2011
There are optional all-day workshops on Friday. The pre-conference workshops start at 10:00 am and conclude at 4:00 pm. If you decide to go to them you need to get to the conference on Thursday so you can be ready to begin Friday morning.
10:00 am - 4:00 pm - "The Writer's Workshop Intensive" Cheryl Richardson & Reid Tracy
I chose this workshop because writing is a passion of mine. I was also curious to compare it with the event called "Movers & Shakers" which I attended in 2010. They now call it "Speak, Write, and Promote… Become a Mover & Shaker."
The idea of attending a day-long workshop just for writers sounded exciting to me. If it sounds exciting to you, I recommend you sign up for it at the next "I CAN DO IT!."
I arrived early and got a seat in the front row. Louise Hay was a surprise guest and was sitting just three chairs to my left. She did a short talk at the beginning and stayed until it was time for us to break for lunch.
Cheryl Richardson and Reid Tracy shared the stage for the workshop. They each shared their experiences and knowledge with us in a way that was interesting, informative, and enjoyable.
Cheryl Richardson is a New York Times bestselling author of five books. Reid Tracy is the president and publisher of Hay House and has many New York Times bestselling books and has sold over fifty-three million books in the USA and Canada. What a wealth of experience and information they have and are willing to share!
Cheryl Richardson and Reid Tracy were very honest with us about the writing process and what it takes to get your book published by a publishing company. They also gave us information on self-publishing as an option. They explained the pros and cons of both being published and deciding to self-publish. I took notes all day and am glad to have them to remind me of the various ideas they shared with us. Would I recommend this workshop? YES. If you are a writer – or have always wanted to be one – this workshop will give you inside information from a best-selling author and the CEO of Hay House Publishing.
I met others who love to write and some who wanted to start but have let fears stop them. I found that the questions that were asked helped answer my own questions without me needing to ask.
There will be another of these writer's intensive workshops at the Tampa, Florida, "I CAN DO IT!" The dates for the Tampa conference are November 11-13, 2011. To find out more about "The Writer's Workshop Intensive" please click here.
Friday Night – 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm - Keynote Speaker Dr. Wayne Dyer
Wayne Dyer was the evening keynote speaker on Friday night. I've seen Dr. Dyer speak at other conferences and also in San Francisco. I've enjoyed every talk of his that I've attended so I was curious to see how it would feel to be hearing him speak again. I was happy to discover that I enjoyed this talk just as much as his previous talks.
Wayne introduced us to a young woman named Sara Sweet who is a stand-up comedian who does "spiritual comedy." Sara and her mom had met Wayne while on Maui. He decided to have her speak during his talk in Pasadena. She was fantastic! She was both funny and inspiring.
The next surprise was that Wayne's beautiful daughter, Skye, came onstage and sang two songs. The second of the songs was "The Leader of the Band" by Dan Fogelberg. Skye sang it to her dad as if they were the only two in the room. It was very touching.
Wayne also had a special guest that he had flown in from Hong Kong. Her name is Anita Moorjani and her story is incredible. I think Wayne said she will be in his next PBS special. We left the auditorium, which held around 2,500 people, after 10 pm. Wayne Dyer went the extra miles for this talk. I am so glad to have been there to see it, hear it, and be inspired by it!
Saturday, October 15, 2011 8:30 am - 10:00 am - Keynote Speakers Cheryl Richardson and Louise Hay
Louise Hay has always given the welcome message at the "I CAN DO IT!" conferences before the keynote speaker on Saturday morning. This year, because of her new book "You Can Create an Exceptional Life" written with Cheryl Richardson there was a change of format.
Louise Hay and Cheryl Richardson sat on the stage on either side of a round table with their book on it. They talked, laughed, and told stories of what it was like to write the book together. The two of them looked relaxed and joyful. It felt as if we were observing two young girlfriends enjoying time together. In fact, several times we noticed Louise smiling and swinging her feet – looking like she was in total joy. Cheryl is always an inspiring speaker but she was relaxed, joyful, and having fun. The result was an informal and interesting talk which I wish I had on video. I would love to be able to watch and listen to it over and over again!
Even though there were around 2,500 people in the auditorium, it felt as if we were sitting in on a private talk with the two of them.
Louise commented that the "I CAN DO IT!" conferences are like, "A banquet for the mind." Her comment is how I feel about the conferences but they are also a "banquet" for your spirit because they are fun.
Cheryl said that Louise Hay is a master of language. It is one of the things I love about both of them! Cheryl pointed out, as an example, that Louise always tells people to say, "Please remember!" instead of "Don't forget!"
They talked about how you start your day being how you live your day. Louise told us how she starts her day and gave us a few of her morning affirmations. I especially like the one that says, "I have clothes I love to wear. My closet loves me. I love my closet." This affirmation makes me feel inspired to go through my closet and take out any clothes that I no longer wear or love. Both Louise and Cheryl told us that we need to practice, practice, practice the new ways of talking to ourselves while we are going through our morning routine as well as throughout our day.
Louise also told us that she blesses her car and sends love to all of the drivers on the road. Her affirmation for this is, "I'm always surrounded by good driver's." I love this idea, and I loved her idea to send love to all of the other drivers.
Cheryl told us that she is teaching what she's needed to learn. I could really relate to that statement because that's how I feel – I teach what I really need and want to learn!
There was a wonderful story Cheryl related about how she wanted to get an orchid plant in a store, got distracted by someone needing help finding something, and when she got home there was a package with an orchid as a gift. Then two or three more orchids showed up as gifts. It does show we need to want something but not be too attached to how it will come to us. Cheryl had wanted the orchid but had let go and the orchids came to her!
Cheryl's husband, Michael, had said to her, "Your words heal." She says it made her cry when he said that – and she began to tear up while telling us. Louise reached in her top and pulled out a tissue for Cheryl. Because of Michael's comment, Cheryl says she began to ask herself, "What do I need to do so I can continue to let my words heal?" She also said, "I protect my sensitivity like a lioness," and "I think we are all artists and healers." In my opinion Cheryl and Louise both heal with their words. They both remind us to notice what we say and to say kind and loving things that help us feel good and enjoy life.
My friend Linda asked Louise what she does before going to sleep at night. Louise said that she says the day is over, thanks her bed, releases the day and then she says, "Life loves me. Life loves me. Life loves me." as she drifts off to sleep.
Being there was like having their book come to life. I am so glad to have been able to be there for this inspiring and fun talk. It was one of my favorite parts of this "I CAN DO IT!" conference.
If you would like to read my review of Louise and Cheryl's new book "You Can Create an Exceptional Life" please click here.
10:30 - 12:30 pm - Workshop "Connecting with the Angels of Health, Happiness, and High Energy" Doreen Virtue
During this time there are several workshops and you must choose one. I chose the one with Doreen Virtue. I had never had a workshop with her before and was curious to find out what it would be like. I've got several friends who have taken her workshops. They all love Doreen and recommend her.
Doreen is so popular that this workshop was held in the main auditorium so we were able to just stay in the same seats after the talk by Louise Hay and Cheryl Richardson.
I found Doreen to be very inviting, interesting, and entertaining. She did readings for several people in the audience. It was amazing how each person's reading could inspire me as well. She makes learning about angels fun. I thoroughly enjoyed her workshop.
The program said this workshop would be about "Connecting with the Angels of Health, Happiness, and High Energy." During the talk, Doreen showed us amazing "Energy Graphs" of positive and negative words from her new book "Angel Words." Doreen looks like a beautiful blonde angel. I greatly enjoyed her workshop and am glad I chose to go to it.

There is a break for lunch from 12:30 - 2:30 pm.
During this time you can also buy books by the authors and have them signed. The book signings were upstairs this year so you had to leave the main area to have your books signed. This was one thing that I felt could have been better. In the past, the book signings have been in the same room where you buy the books. I prefer that open feeling to the way it was at this event.

2:30 - 4:30 pm - Workshop "The Honeymoon Effect" Bruce H. Lipton, PhD.
During this time there were more workshops. I chose to go to one called "The Honeymoon Effect - The Science of Creating Heaven on Earth." Bruce H. Lipton, PhD. is an internationally recognized leader in bridging science and spirit. He is also known for groundbreaking stem-cell research at Stanford University. I had heard Bruce speak at two previous conferences about "The Biology of Belief" and was very curious to hear what he had to say about "The Honeymoon Effect."
I had gotten to the talk early enough to be sitting near the front. While I was waiting for the talk to begin, the woman on my left was asked if she would be willing to trade places so Bruce's mom could sit in her chair. During the talk my friend Linda was to my right and Bruce's mom was to my left. I enjoyed meeting her!
Bruce showed a number of PowerPoint slides to illustrate what he was saying. He speaks very quickly and jams an incredible amount of information into a two-hour talk. My friend Linda teased him that they pay all of the other speakers by the number of words but because it was him, they pay him a flat rate. It seems to me that his workshop would be better if it was longer and allowed him to speak more slowly, pause more to let us absorb what he's saying, and also give us more time to ask questions.
I enjoyed learning about "harmonic resonance" and was interested to hear what he had to say about our conscious and subconscious minds. Bruce told us that our conscious mind is NOT time bound but our subconscious mind is totally time bound. It is always in the NOW. So when we pay attention in the NOW we are in control but if we allow our conscious mind to wander back in time or forward in time our subconscious mind takes over. Hearing this helped me understand why we hear it said that "Our point of power is in our present moments."
He also talked about an article titled "A Wandering Mind is an Unhappy Mind." I've found that when I allow my mind to wander it sometimes wanders into worry. By focusing on what is happening NOW, I am able to enjoy the moment and to appreciate what is happening – what I see, hear, and feel. I've found myself thinking of this part of Bruce's talk many times, and it always reminds me to pay attention to my present moments.
5:00 - 6:30 pm- Keynote Speaker Gregg Braden
Gregg Braden was the evening keynote speaker on Saturday. Gregg is a New York Times bestselling author and is internationally renowned as a pioneer in bridging science and spirituality. The program described this as a "compelling, multi-media intensive." I've heard Gregg speak twice before and found this talk to be very similar to the others. He does have interesting things to say, and I am glad to have heard – and seen – his talk about what he has discovered about science and spirituality. One thing that was new was that he had his wife play guitar and sing us a song. During the song, Gregg played a wooden wind instrument. Gregg looked very happy and looked like he was having fun including the music. I have to say it was my favorite part of his keynote speech.

Saturday night Linda and I decided to have an early dinner and get some extra sleep. Every time I've attended the "I CAN DO IT!" conference, I've been kept busy for three days in a row. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are all full days if you choose to do the optional all-day Friday workshop and attend the Friday night keynote speech. I've found that I enjoy life most when I am well-rested so I am glad we made it an early night!

Sunday, October 16, 2011 8:30 - 10:00 am - Keynote Speaker Dr. Christiane Northrup, M.D.
Dr. Christiane Northrup, M.D. was the morning keynote speaker on Sunday. I had seen her talk at another conference and was looking forward to hearing what she had to say. Dr. Northrup was inspiring, entertaining, and funny. I greatly enjoyed her stories, use of humor, and how she uses pauses for dramatic effect. One of the reasons I was excited to attend the conference was to learn from the speakers. Dr. Northrup is outstanding. She is fun to watch and to hear.
During her talk she invited her daughter, Kate, onstage and had Kate lead us all in dance movements and moving our bodies. During this part she also had Nancy Levin, the event director for Hay House, join them on the stage. It was great fun watching the three of them dance. It got even better when Wayne Dyer joined them for the rest of the dance.
Dr. Northrup told a story about her cat, Buddy, that made me think of our cat and how much we love him. She had her cat for twelve years. We've had ours for less than a year but because of how we feel about our cat, Bender, I could really relate to how Dr. Northrup felt about hers.
While listening to the stories Dr. Northrup told about her mom, I could feel my mom with me. I had met two mothers and their daughters during the conference, and they were there with me. My friend Linda wasn't feeling well and decided not to attend the keynote speech at the last minute so I had an empty seat to my right. I was able to imagine my mom sitting there with me – and that made me feel good.
Dr. Northrup ended her talk with an inspiring "Divine Love" meditation. In it she talked about the healing energy of love and said that we are Divine Love. She also talked about the heart's energy field and aligning our hearts. One of my favorite parts is where she talked about a "golden orb of Divine Love" during the meditation.
Her talk left me feeling inspired, happy, and fully entertained. I highly recommend experiencing Dr. Northrup speaking in person!
10:00 - 12:30 pm - Workshop "The Power of Your Spirit" Sonia Choquette
For my 10:00 - 12:30 pm workshop I chose Sonia Choquette's "The Power of Your Spirit." The workshop was based on the book I reviewed by Sonia with the same title.
I've been in workshops with Sonia several other times and because I've enjoyed each one I decided to spend the time with her again.
One of the things I love about Sonia's workshops is that they are FUN. Sonia is playful, light-hearted, and loves music. There is always music, singing, and dancing during her workshops. I've also noticed that I always meet people I enjoy in her workshops. I would love to stay in touch with the two women I met during her workshop – one was sitting on my left and the other on my right. We got a chance to talk when Sonia had us break off in groups to talk.
I went to the workshop with high expectations and got what I expected and more – two hours of being inspired, playful, singing, dancing, talking to the people next to me, and having fun. Sonia is still one of my favorite teachers. I highly recommend attending her workshops and reading her books!
If you would like to read my review of Sonia's book "The Power of Your Spirit," please click here.

From 12:30 - 2:30 we had another break for lunch to buy books and have them signed.
I headed over to the ballroom where my next two workshops would be. I ate my lunch while waiting for my 2:30 workshop. I've found that while I am waiting I always meet people I enjoy and that is exactly what happened while I was waiting.

2:30 - 4:30 pm - Workshop "Be Your Own Shaman" Deborah King
For my last workshop of the weekend, I chose Deborah King's workshop based on her book "Be Your Own Shaman." I was curious to see what it was like to be in a workshop with Deborah because I had written a review of her book. In the program it said, "You may not realize it, but everyone's a natural born healer, including you!" It also said that "Deborah is a master healer and teacher whose first book, 'Truth Heals: What You Hide Can Hurt You' became an instant bestseller." I am still curious about her first book. I forgot to look at it while I was at the conference. It was interesting being in the workshop, but I actually enjoyed her book more.
To read my review of Deborah's book "Be Your Own Shaman" please click here.
5:00 - 6:30 pm - Keynote Speaker Robert Holden, Ph.D.
The closing keynote speaker for the conference was Robert Holden, Ph.D. The title of his talk was "Shift Happens! Taking the Next Step in Your Life." The talk was based on his book of the same title. The book was published in 1999, and Hay House decided to re-publish it just before 2012. I had heard Robert Holden speak at an event a few years ago. I was impressed with how much he has grown as a speaker. He was inspiring, entertaining, and funny. He started his talk by reading an email from a woman who had found his book on a bus. She said that it had been her constant companion and was helping her feel happier. The funny thing is she finally realized that the title said "shift" and she had thought it said "shit happens." While both are true, this book is about "shift" that happens and how to make the best of it.
I found his list of what he calls "Dysfunctional Independence" to be interesting. Can you relate to any of the following items in his list?
You think you're self-made You suffer from B.M.S. (By My Self) You are hopeless at asking for help Your lack of trust holds you back Your "I strain" exhausts you
Robert Holden's list, above, reminds me to ASK for help more often. Life is so much more enjoyable when you are willing to give and receive help.
Robert Holden uses words in interesting ways. I became curious to read his book, "Shift Happens!" It might be one of my next reviews.
Hay House recorded the entire "I CAN DO IT!" Pasadena event and attendees were able to purchase a USB Flash Drive Wristband with recordings of all of the keynotes and workshops on it. (However the wristband doesn't include the pre-conference all day workshops.) While I've enjoyed some of the recordings of the past conferences, there have been some cases where it would have been much more inspiring to be able to see the speakers and the visual aspects of their talks. Some of the speakers included PowerPoint slides and the visual aspects of their speeches are lost when you only hear the recordings. Listening to the recordings makes more sense if you've been to the live event so you can picture what you saw during it. My husband asked me why Hay House doesn't make videos of the conference. His question made me curious. I am now wondering why there are no videos of at least the keynote speakers.
It would be great to be able to purchase videos on DVDs of the keynote speeches and some of the workshops. I've noticed that for the Tampa, Florida, "I CAN DO IT!" you have the option of watching it as a live streaming video if you can't attend the event in person. They will also be including videos of the keynote speakers on the USB wristbands for the Tampa event.
In summary, I have to say that the 2011 "I CAN DO IT!" conference in Pasadena was inspiring, uplifting, and fun. I met people I hope to stay in touch with – Kindred Spirits who shared the experience with me in workshops and/or during the keynote speeches. I was surprised by how much I liked the location for the event at the Pasadena Auditorium and Convention Center. It was different than being in Las Vegas or San Diego but once I just let go of my expectations for where it would be, I decided it was a good choice.
If you've never been to an "I CAN DO IT!" conference, please consider going to one. If you've been to one before, I recommend going again. They are constantly "evolving" and show each of the speaker's expanded knowledge.

As soon as I heard that Louise Hay and Cheryl Richardson were writing a book together, I knew I wanted to review it.
Both of these exceptional women have been my mentors and what I call treasured teachers in my life. They inspire me, encourage me, and remind me to pay attention to my thoughts, my words, and my choices. Each of them, in their own ways, has made a huge contribution to who I am today.
When this book showed up in the mail, on a Friday night, I did a "Happy Dance" and said, "Wahoo!!!" and then I sat down to start reading. I finished half the book the first night, and I finished the second half the next day. Now, I've read it twice all the way through. I enjoyed it both times.
Reading it was especially fun because I felt like I was there with Louise and Cheryl for each of their conversations and that was a joyful feeling. The conversations take place in cities including San Diego, Tampa, Orlando, and New York here in the USA, as well as in Toronto, Vancouver, and London. Some of the conversations even take place with Skype while they are both in their pajamas with no makeup!
I wanted to be part of the conversation. The way it's written I felt like I was there with them.
Louise Hay and Cheryl Richardson have made a huge difference in the lives of people all over our planet – and I am one of them.
YOU CAN CREATE AN EXCEPTIONAL LIFE Cheryl Richardson and Louise Hay's new book - and me! An inspiring book by two exceptional women!!!
I first discovered Cheryl in 1999 when I heard her talking about her first book, "Take Time for Your Life." Louise Hay came into my life in a BIG way in 2005 with her book "You Can Heal Your Life" and her "I Can Do It!" conference which I attended because of my Mom's health.
Cheryl said her first thought when considering Reid Tracy's suggestion for her to write a book with Louise Hay was, "That would be a unique opportunity to learn from a woman who has had such a vast impact on my life as well as the lives of millions of others."
The book consists of a series of heart-to-heart conversations about spiritual principles that have shaped their lives.
The book is from Cheryl's point of view, but it highlights the comments made by Louise during each of the conversations. I liked that Cheryl also told us what she was thinking, feeling, and gave examples of how the conversations with Louise Hay were changing how she looked at life and how she talked to herself about life.
Some of the stories were familiar to me from reading Louise and Cheryl's previous books, but there was so much more depth that now I know both of them in ways I never had before.
I love the titles of the chapters: 1. Answer the Phone and Open the Mail 2. Becoming the Creator of an Exceptional Life 3. How You Start Your Day is How You Live Your Day 4. How You Live Your Day is How You Live Your Life 5. Don't Break a Habit – Dissolve it! 6. The Beauty of Wisdom 7. The End of the Movie Themes: Simplicity – small, simple steps… Optimism – attention and energy on solutions… Patience – experiencing the journey… Trust – opportunities for growth… Growth – life as a classroom… Service – encourage and assist… Action – "show up" and walk through doors… Faith – keep moving forward… Magnetism – the ability to attract…
Louise says her question has always been: "How can I help people?" Louise believes, "We are powerful, creative beings who determine our future with every thought we think and every word we speak."
Cheryl's thoughts about what Louise said above: "As I consider Louise's remark, I realize, at its core, this message is one of the most important: In our purest, most positive state of mind, we are powerful creators of our very best lives. When we think good thoughts, we feel good. When we feel good, we make good choices. When we feel good and make good choices, we draw more good experiences into our lives. It really is that simple… and elegant … and true."
Our sweet cat, Bender, with "You Can Create an Exceptional Life"
What do I love about Louise and Cheryl's new book? The size and the length. It left me wanting more, and yet feeling as if it was perfect just the length it is – to savor the first reading and to read it again and again over time for the reminders and enjoyment.
Why do I recommend it? I found it inspiring, and it was fun to read. I felt as if I was there with Louise and Cheryl in the various cities and countries. Cheryl did a great job of describing where they were and what it felt and looked like to her. I especially enjoyed her description of what it was like to be in Louise's home. She made me feel as if I was there with them. What fun!
I recommend it because whether you know Louise and Cheryl or not it is inspiring. For those who do know their work – and who love them – it is a wonderful feeling to be part of their conversations about love and how to love yourself and your life. I loved hearing their thoughts on how to get the most enjoyment possible from each day.
What would I suggest to make it better? To record it as CDs so we can hear Louise and Cheryl having the conversations!! I love both of their voices and would love to hear them reading it. There are wonderful affirmations throughout the book and in lists at the end as well. One of my favorites, now, is: "Life loves me." I've started to say, "Life loves me. I love life, and I love me!" (over and over) when I am on my way to sleep, as I get up, and when I feel I need some love during the day.
Cheryl asked Louise how she looks and feels so good at (almost) 85.Louise's answers were as follows:
"Well it comes down to loving yourself, loving your body, and making peace with the aging process. When you love yourself, you care about your body, and you care about what you put into it. You also care about the thoughts you choose to think."
"I have cultivated a mental outlook that allows me to see life from the most positive advantage. This positive, loving, grateful, joyous outlook attracts to me the greatest life – and that's why this is the best decade so far."
What a book!!!
What exceptional women!!!
I am thankful to have them both as mentors, teachers, role models, and I am happy that I am excited to see them both October 14-16, 2011 in Pasadena at the "I Can Do It!" conference (check it out).
Here are four ways to buy this exceptional and inspiring book:
I decided to review this book because I had seen other people's comments about Michael Chase's talk at the Hay House "Movers & Shakers" in Boston on facebook. I became extremely curious to know more about him, his Kindness Center, and his book "am I being kind" which Hay House published because of his talk at the event.
Whether you've been to a "Movers & Shakers" event, are considering going to one, or have no idea what it is – I am convinced that you'll find his book and the stories he tells in it to be inspiring.
The book, am I being kind, arrived at my home on Friday, May 20, 2011 – which would have been my Mom's 80th Birthday. Because she was a great example of kindness and unconditional love, it felt perfect to have the book come that day. In fact in some ways it feels like it was a gift from my Mom!
When I asked Michael why the title is written with all lowercase letters all except for the "I" — and why there is no question mark — he told me, "The answer is in the book." His answer made me even more curious to read the book. And yes the answer is in the book.
As Michael says in the book, while many people believe it's too late or impossible to alter their path and make a different decision it's not true.
The stories Michael tells in the book are very convincing and remind us all that it's never too late to change!
Michael suggests reading the book slowly to get the most benefit from it. I enjoyed it so much I read it in one weekend. Taking notes for writing this review gave me a chance to re-visit the stories and helped me remember main points he makes in the book.
The first two chapters tell stories about what Michael calls the "art of unkindness" and they help us see the contrast that caused him to have a burning desire to live a life of kindness. The fact that he grew up with a father who was unkind and a grandfather who was even more unkind shows us we can each decide to make the choice to be kind and to live a life of kindness.
Michael J. Chase
One of the stories I loved is about how a turtle crossing the road changed how he felt about kindness and inspired him to live a life of kindness. Four months after the turtle epiphany Michael decided to create and open The Kindness Center.
Michael Chase's book is a delight to read because of his sense of humor. The title of chapter three is "From Toll House to Hay House." In it he tells the story of how he went from being paid with Toll House cookies to being asked to become a Hay House author.
I greatly enjoyed the chapter titled "Moving & Shaking in Boston." It was interesting to read the day-by-day descriptions of what it was like to be there and how he was feeling from Friday, April 23, 2010, through Sunday, April 25, 2010. I had attended the Movers and Shakers event in San Francisco the month before so I found it interesting to contrast how I was feeling with how he felt while there.
Michael was chosen as one of four people at the "Movers & Shakers" event who got to give a seven minute talk. The days right after the event he got emails from Cheryl Richardson and Reid Tracy. On Wayne Dyer's 70th Birthday, May 10, 2010, Michael received a contract from Hay House to publish his book!
Parts II & III of the book reveal how Michael shifted from a life of misery to now living a life of kindness and inspiration.
In the book Michael will ask you to make choices that can change your world, your relationships, and how you feel about yourself.
You'll want to read the book to find out how one simple question can change your life and also change the lives of those around you. One way is by creating a daily "To-Be List" before you create your "To-Do List" for the day.
What would I change about the book? The cover could be more colorful and have a graphic or photo but the contents of this book certainly make it worth buying.
Why do I recommend this book? Michael's stories are inspiring and told with a sense of humor. He comes across as authentic, likable and unique. Combining humor with this topic really helps make a lasting impression.
Does being kind help you feel happy? Does being kind help others feel happy? After reading this book, I am convinced the answer is YES for both questions. It is my belief that anyone who reads this book will be inspired to do what they can to help make the world a kinder and happier place.
Sonia Choquette has been one of my favorite authors for many years. I've always enjoyed her books and the title of this one, The Power of Your Spirit, got me curious especially when combined with the subtitle, "A Guide to Joyful Living."
When the book arrived for me to review, I wondered if Sonia could have done it again? Would I enjoy reading her new book since I've read several books by her? The answers to these questions were "Yes!" and "Yes!"
Sonia is a great storyteller and she weaves in stories that teach us from the examples of what lessons she or the people in the story learn from what has happened in their lives.
She had me curious from the first two paragraphs of the introduction. In them she describes a movie (that I've seen) which is about a tour guide in Greece who has lost her kefi, which is a Greek word for "spirit."
Sonia says, "The film reminded me that the idea of losing your connection to spirit isn't all that unusual." She goes on to say that she encounters many lovely, generous, and caring people who feel lost, disillusioned, and powerless.
In this book, she guides readers through four stages she says we must pass through on the way to reconnecting with our own spirit.
The four stages are: Awakening Discovery Surrender Flow
For most of us the journey is gradual but she says it's also possible, though rare, to move through all four stages in one dramatic shift.
In "How to Use this Book" Sonia says, "Take time and enjoy the process. Ponder the questions and stories throughout." She also says to be sure to implement the daily practices for at least 40 days.
One thing she repeats through the book is that you must change what you do and not just read books expecting your life to change. She gives an example of a woman who kept reading more books but wasn't putting what she read into practice. It's with a daily practice that we change the frequency of our vibration.
Sonia Choquette
Sonia reminds us that we are all students. Each of us faces challenges and the stories in this book can help us learn through OPE (other people's experience).
In this book, Sonia stresses the importance of how we breathe. Shallow breathing – and even holding our breath – can keep us from feeling connection with our spirit.
"The preamble to our awakening is marked by a growing sense of overwhelm, exhaustion, anxiety, restlessness, impatience, irritation, depression, and complete victimhood. In other words, it's a feeling that life is a struggle, and there's nothing we can do about it."
Throughout the book Sonia has questions for us to answer which are best written in a journal. She also says to invite your spirit — your most authentic self — to answer them.
After answering the questions she guides you to close your eyes and to calmly breathe through your nose in a deep way that feels relaxed and wonderful. In fact, as she says, it can help you feel calm, connected to Source, peaceful, and energized all at the same time. She calls this "connected breathing" and it is a technique she explains in the book. I love how it makes me feel! Sonia suggests you do it for 15 minutes. It is a way of breathing that connects the breaths and connects you with your spirit. I've heard that the word inspire means to breathe in — and it feels inspiring to breathe this way.
Reading about "connected breathing" helped me to realize it's what I do — and feel — when I do my 15 minute meditation each morning. As Sonia says, using a timer allows you to relax. What I realized while reading this part of the book was how good it feels to do this "connected breathing" at other times during the day — or night — any time I notice my breathing has gotten shallow or that I'm feeling tense and find I'm holding my breath.
Sonia says, "To surrender to the power of Spirit, you must listen to your heart and admit how you feel, first to yourself and then to others, even if your truth makes you or those around you uncomfortable, angry, or afraid." She goes on to say, "To live in alignment with your Spirit is to live your truth and build your life upon it."
"Live Your Love" As Sonia points out in this part of the book, none of us knows how long we have on this planet. A powerful thing to do is to make a list of all the things you want to do or experience before you leave this life. I love her suggestion to put the list in a prominent place and plan to do one of them — or at least part of one of them — each day. As she points out we really don't have time to put off our dreams for someone else's demands. I suggest we all take her advice and begin to do the things on our list!
"Go with the Flow" I found this part of the book a great reminder for me when I begin to want to control life: "Make a habit to relax. Let go. Take a breath and look around. Enjoy the view. Accept life as it unfolds rather than try to force it in a particular way."
"The Ebb" "The greatest challenge to staying in the flow comes when you encounter 'the ebb,' which is any change, expected or unexpected, that leaves you feeling threatened and insecure because you aren't sure what's coming next."
Ebbs are part of life and they come when our life shifts. As Sonia points out, ebbs instigate growth — they invite us to become aware of what's holding us back and they help to move us forward in the direction we're meant to go. They lead us into our next experience of being in the flow.
There is an inspiring quote by Earl Nightingale that Sonia included in the section on the flow: "All you have to do is know where you're going. The answers will come to you of their own accord."
The book ends with an inspiring list of choices we can make as part of our daily practice. Sonia suggests we write the list in our own handwriting on a beautiful piece of paper and read the things on the list out loud daily.
Do I recommend this book? YES.

I chose to review Doreen Virtue's new book because I was curious to learn more about Angels and to find out what it means to do "Angel Therapy."
Before I begin my review of the book, I would like to tell you a little about how I got interested in Doreen Virtue and the subject of Angels.
In June 2008, I emailed my schedule for the Las Vegas "I Can Do It!" conference to a treasured friend of mine. He emailed back asking me about Doreen Virtue. It surprised me that he was asking about her — even though she was one of the speakers for the event. It turned out that he had met a woman named Anna Taylor who had studied with Doreen. As I got to know Anna, I began to ask her questions about Angels. Talking with Anna inspired me to buy a small book by Doreen Virtue called "Angels 101" and reading that book got me curious to learn more about Angels.
Before I began reading The Angel Therapy Handbook, I wondered if it would be right for me since I'd never studied with Doreen. But I found myself being fascinated by Doreen's story about how she began to combine her experience as a psychotherapist with what she had learned firsthand about angels.
What is Angel Therapy? Here's how Doreen describes it: "Angel Therapy is a non-denominational spiritual healing method that involves working with a person's guardian angels and archangels, to heal and harmonize every aspect of life."
Angels are a link to Divine Guidance and are available to help when we ask them. The key thing to remember is that they love to help but can only help if we ASK.
I have to admit that reading the book was fun for me. I enjoyed reading it and began to be more curious about the workshops Doreen teaches. During the past couple of years, I've met more and more people who have studied with her. What they have in common is that they are all kind and loving people that I am glad to have met.
Doreen Virtue has been teaching her Angel Therapy Practitioner Course since 1997 and has helped thousands of people learn skills for spiritual healing. In this book she shares with her readers tools, secrets, and exercises she teaches her students. For those who have studied with her, this is a wonderful reference book. For the rest of us, it is an interesting and entertaining look at her teaching.
Reading The Angel Therapy Handbook — with Bender
On the back cover of the book, Doreen Virtue says, "My life purpose isn't to give angel readings and spiritual healings to clients. It's to teach other people to do these things for themselves and their clients. I always encourage my spiritual-counseling students to teach others — to create an ever-spreading ripple effect that increases the awareness that we all have angels, that we all can communicate with them, and that we all have spiritual gifts we can use to help ourselves and the world."
This book has great advice for anyone who feels called to speak, teach, or do healing work of any kind.
In the book Doreen talks about a little-known universal law that she says is always in operation: The Law of Action. She goes on to say, "This rule states that as you take any action in the direction of your goal — no matter how seemingly small — the universe will take an even greater step in your direction to meet and support your goal."
Especially during the current economic downturn people often have less work and find themselves with more free time. We can each choose to use that time for some — any — action. We can choose to help others, explore new paths, make new connections, and to stay active. Passivity leads to boredom and self-doubt. Action of any kind helps keep your mind sharp, active, helps you feel good, and moves you toward your desired outcomes. What are some small actions you can take today?
My husband, Dudley, and I enjoyed meeting Doreen when her band, Obsidian, played in San Francisco. Doreen looks like an angel onstage — whether she is speaking or playing guitar with her band.
Yes, I am glad I decided to review this book. I am also glad that I've begun to learn about angels. What have I learned?
• Angels are non-denominational so they are available to everyone. • Angels are with us all of the time — we just need to believe it and tune into them. • Angels love to help us — but we must ASK them to help.
Do I recommend this book? YES!
If you've studied with Doreen, you'll enjoy having this book as a reminder of what she's taught you. If you are new to her work, I suggest starting with her book Angels 101 so you know the basics of what she teaches.

When I was asked to review Kathy D. Infeld's book, Creating Love For A Lifetime – The Five C's To A Successful Marriage, I said, "YES!" Why? Because I was curious to find out what Kathy has learned about creating a love that lasts. Kathy is a psychotherapist, mediator, coach, author, and a woman who has been married for over 37 years.
In my opinion this book can help people create and enjoy a happy marriage or improve their current love relationship. Whether you are single, engaged, just married, or have been married for many years – this book is for you. My husband and I have been married for 28 years. I believe that a large part of why we are still happy together is because we practice what Kathy calls "The Five Cs."
One of the things I love about this book is Kathy's honesty and her willingness to share stories from her own marriage to help illustrate her points. Right from the start she is honest about how two years into her marriage she thought it wasn't going to work. She goes on to tell the stories of how that changed through what she learned in her own marriage which is part of how she helps others with theirs.
Kathy D. Infeld
When I asked Kathy why she wrote this book, she said, "I wrote this book for couples who want to know how to have a successful, sensual, and loving marriage."
One thing I want to make clear is that although the book is about creating a marriage that lasts, the principles in the book can help you improve any kind of relationship. I also feel the book could help couples decide if they are ready for marriage and if they are right for each other. I see this book as being helpful to anyone who wants to have better relationships with the people they love.
The book has many inspiring quotes about love. Here are three of my favorites:
"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength. While loving someone deeply gives you courage." – Lao Tzu
"If speaking is silver, then listening is gold." – Turkish Proverb
"Love doesn't make the world go round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile." – Elizabeth Barrett Browning
The chapter on communication was one of my favorites. It is my belief that the quality of our lives greatly depends on the quality of our communications. As Kathy says, forgiveness, resolution, and negotiation all begin with communication. In order to have a great relationship, it's important that both people feel understood and that depends on our ability to communicate.
I would like to give you a brief overview of Kathy Infeld's Five C's:
ONE: Commitment The willingness and dedication to work on your relationship and create the kind of connection that will enhance life for both of you.
TWO: Communication Improving your ability to understand, connect with each other, and create a bridge of love between the two of you.
THREE: Conflict Resolution Negotiating differences of opinion, healing emotional wounds, and learning to fulfill each partner's needs.
FOUR: Cherishing Learning to appreciate your partner and express that appreciation, gratitude, sensuality, and love in your relationship.
FIVE: Communion of Spirit Expressing your growth, love, and purpose as a couple – your own unique way of giving through your life together.
Through the pages of her book, Creating Love for a Lifetime - The Five C’S to a Successful Marriage, Kathy describes these principles in detail. I enjoyed reading the examples of the various couples Kathy has helped with her Five C's. The stories, examples, and exercises in this book helped the couples revitalize, renew, and in some cases re-invent their love.

When Hay House publishing sent me an email asking me to do a review of Marianne Williamson's new book, A Course in Weight Loss, my first thought was that I didn't want to do it. But then I began to wonder if the book and CDs might be helpful to the people who read my blog so I decided to write the review.
I've heard Marianne speak at the Hay House conferences, and also at our local bookstore. I found her to be an inspiring speaker and person. I was honest with my contact at Hay House and told her I would prefer to listen to CDs of Marianne's book. The result was they sent me both — the book and the CDs of the book.
This "course" is aimed at an audience of "compulsive eaters" or "food addicts." It seems to me that those are two extremes of behavior and the lessons could also help people who just want to let go of some behaviors that cause them to overeat. It could also help them find ways to replace overeating with loving kindness and a greater feeling of connection with other people.
What I discovered while listening to the CDs was that her message is one that can help people with other issues besides shedding excess weight. I mentioned this to a friend, after I had listened to all of the CDs, and she decided she would like to listen to the CDs and see if they could help her become a nonsmoker. (My friend has no problem with her weight but has been a smoker for many years.) Following is what she told me this morning after listening to the first two CDs:
"I've never had anything hit such a nerve in me about quitting smoking as these CDs by Marianne Williamson. I would definitely recommend this book and the CDs for people trying to kick the nicotine or other compulsions or addictive behaviors. In fact, I woke up this morning and threw all my cigarettes away."
What made the difference for her, I believe, is that the CDs were about a problem that she could pretend was about smoking. She began to hear the message that overeating (or in her case smoking) were ways of being unloving to herself.
We both feel that the book and CDs can help people who have compulsive or addictive behaviors and want a new way to think about their behavior. Although the subtitle of the book is "21 Spiritual Lessons for Surrendering Your Weight Forever" these same spiritual lessons can help people with being more loving to themselves in a variety of ways.
Marianne Williamson has been teaching the principles of A Course in Miracles for many years. She found that the lessons she learned and was teaching had helped her change from someone who was a compulsive eater to someone who people thought had never had a problem with eating or her weight.
I had already changed how I looked at eating — what I eat and how much I eat — because of a desire to be a healthy person and to set a good example for my son. But the lessons in this book fit in beautifully with what has been working for me. The lessons also helped me feel compassion for "untidy me" so I can become more of a "tidy me." The lessons in this course help us be more loving to the "parts" of our behavior that make us feel bad — which just makes us want to do more of whatever that behavior consists of whether it's overeating, smoking, drinking, drugs, living in clutter, or a combination of compulsive behaviors.
The foreword for the book, written by Dr. Dean Ornish, inspired me. One of the things he said is that, "The real epidemic is not just obesity or heart disease or cancer; it's loneliness, depression, and isolation. If we address these deeper issues, then it becomes easier for people to make lasting changes in their behaviors." Dr. Ornish also states that he believes, "Fear is not a sustainable motivator." What works is for us to focus on love and the joy we can feel in living. As Dr. Ornish goes on to say, "Even more than being healthy and losing weight, most people want to feel free and in control."
Following are a few quotes from Marianne, from the book, that I would like to share with you here:
"…when you're eating wisely, you're expressing love for yourself… Love dissolves fear the way light dissolves darkness. Fat cells will dissolve permanently when they are dissolved through the power of love."
"For the overeater, food is an area where a spirit of fear has infected the nervous system… like a virus in a bio-computer."
"One of the ways you love yourself is by permitting yourself to want what you want."
"Overeating is an act of spiritual starvation, and one of the things the overeater often starves herself of is the natural right to dream. Invoking the real you begins with expanding your imagination, allowing yourself to want what you really want. You have as much right to your dreams as any other person."
Marianne Williamson has dedicated this book, and the CDs that go with it, to Oprah Winfrey. I would like to share the book's dedication here:
"This book began and ended as a communication between friends. Oprah Winfrey inspired the book, directed its course, and guided its vision. On a soul level definitely, and in many ways in a literary one, this book was a collaborative effort. Every page is a reflection of my affection for and gratitude to her; my hope is that it brings comfort to her as she has brought comfort to so many.
To any reader who may feel this book is a gift, please know it was a gift from her."
If it were up to me, I would change the title and re-design the cover of the book and CDs in order to achieve a wider audience appeal. I believe the book and CDs can help people make positive changes. All of us have our own reasons for resisting changes — even when the changes can make us feel wonderful. If you're open to thinking of your behavior in some new and loving ways, you'll want to read this book and/or listen to the CDs.

I was very excited when Hay House Publishing sent me Getting Into The Vortex — Guided Meditations CD and User Guide to review on my blog! Why? Because I enjoy listening to CDs by Abraham-Hicks. To help you understand why I recommend this book and CD, I will tell you a little bit about how I discovered Abraham-Hicks.
I've been listening to CDs by Abraham-Hicks since April 2005 when I attended my first all-day workshop with Esther and Jerry Hicks at the Las Vegas "I Can Do It!" conference. The workshop was inspiring and uplifting. Being there all day was an awesome and fun experience. It was a combination of the workshop and the book Ask and It Is Given that inspired me to try doing 15 minutes of meditation each morning. They suggest you set a timer for 15 minutes, sit in a comfortable chair, in comfortable clothes, with your eyes closed and just focus on your breathing. I thought I would just try it one time because I like having my eyes open so I can see what's all around me but I found the 15 minutes of relaxed breathing with my eyes shut feels wonderful.
The reason I decided to go to the workshop was because I had read Ask and It Is Given, which was the first book Hay House published by Abraham-Hicks. The fact that Hay House had published the book and Wayne Dyer had written the introduction inspired me to read it. Ever since then I've kept Ask and It Is Given on the shelf next to where I write every morning.

The words in Ask and It is Given always uplift me. If you haven't read it, I recommend that you do because it will help you understand how Law of Attraction works. The book also helps you get to know Esther and Jerry Hicks who have been leading the Abraham-Hicks workshops since 1985.
Getting into the Vortex — Guided Meditations CD and User Guide is wonderful. I love listening to the CD. The book is a great reference guide to support the CD. As it says in the preface, by Jerry Hicks, it is tempting to just listen to the CD but he recommends reading the "General Well-Being" part of the User Guide before you begin to listen. For people who are new to the teachings of Abraham-Hicks, it would be a good idea to take his advice and begin reading first. But my guess is that you'll be curious and want to put the CD in your player and start. If you do decide to listen first, you'll want to go back and read the User Guide later to help you more clearly understand what they are teaching.
I have to be honest. It says NOT to listen to the CD in your car — because it is to be used for meditation. But I wanted to re-listen to the CD before writing my review and decided to listen to it (with my eyes open!!) while driving to visit a friend who lives about 45 minutes away. What I found is that it was enjoyable to listen to the soft music and Esther's soothing voice and words while I was driving. While it's not how it was meant to be used, I think it could help people feel more calm while they are behind the wheel. Plus, since we all spend so much time in our cars, it is a way to hear the CD more often. If you do decide to listen while in your car, please do it when you are fully awake because it is relaxing!
This wonderful new book and meditation CD are perfect for listening to at this time of year! In fact, the first printing of it sold out before I even got a chance to write this review! The good news is that Hay House expects to have more in stock around December 22, 2010. Also, you might want to check the various links, below, to see if they are currently available. If you have to wait, you'll still be glad you ordered them. Listening to the CD feels wonderful.
I feel certain listening to the CD will help you feel good and align you with your heart's desires. There are four 15 minute meditations on the CD. They focus on the following four topics:
General Well-Being Financial Abundance Physical Well-Being Relationships
I would love to hear your feelings after you get a chance to experience it.

When I hear the name Robert Berry, I smile. Why? Because he is a treasured friend, one of the most positive people I know, an awesome musician, singer, songwriter, and music producer… and he loves the holiday season. Robert has created an album of fun new rock interpretations of Christmas music with his band the December People!!!
OK, I have to admit I love Christmas music — I start to play it right after Thanksgiving every year. If you love Christmas music and want something new and fun to hear, you'll want to check out this new album.
Who are the December People?
They are a band of talented recording and performing artists with a unique concept — they perform well known Christmas songs with a classic rock style.
The band was created by Robert Berry, who has played with Keith Emerson and Carl Palmer as 3, as well as Sammy Hagar, Ambrosia, Greg Kihn — and his bands HUSH, Alliance, and The Robert Berry Band. The other members of December People are Gary Pihl the guitarist with Boston who has also played with Sammy Hagar; David Medd, keyboard player for The Tubes and Quicksilver Messenger Service; Mike Vanderhule, drummer and percussionist, from Y&T; and Jack Foster, a solo artist on Musea Records, on guitar.
My husband and I were lucky to be able to see — and hear — the album debut concert, which was held on November 13, 2010 in Monterey, CA, by a live feed on the internet. The photos above, and below, are of the concert. One thing we noticed was that these very talented musicians were having fun playing the holiday songs and it was wonderful to watch them perform.
This morning the December People were on NBC TV for the San Jose Holiday parade. They played a medley of songs from the album. They looked happy, joyful, and sounded fantastic. The float looked great and the energy of the band plus dancing elves and santas added to the magic.
If you would like to see them live, they will be performing Friday, December 10, 2010 at The Avalon in Santa Clara, CA for the KFOX Can Jam. The doors open at 6 pm and the show starts at 7 pm. Admission is a $10 donation to Second Harvest Food Bank (per person) or 10 cans of food. For more information, click here.

One of my all-time favorite books, The Power of Intention by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, has been re-released as a beautifully illustrated gift edition.
Imagine my excitement when Hay House Publishing sent me a copy of this beautiful book to review on my blog! The full-color illustrated gift edition of The Power of Intention is a joy to see. I love the cover as well as the illustrations throughout the book. Each page is unique and is created to highlight the text on it.
I first read The Power of Intention in 2004. The hard cover book is a favorite of mine and has yellow highlights and notes in the margins. The illustrated version has the same text as the original book and yet because of the layout and colorful illustrations, the words seem new and feel different to me as I read them.
I have to be honest – I love both versions of this book! I still value the original book with my own yellow highlights and notes in it – and I also enjoy reading Wayne's words combined with the graphics and illustrations that add new dimensions to the message.
It seems to me that anyone who enjoyed reading the original book will also enjoy having this beautiful new version of the book. My husband who is a graphic designer, my sister who is an artist, and I all love the colorful illustrations and layout of the book. I feel the gift edition will have a strong appeal to young people and artists because of the playful graphics.
In this book Dr. Dyer explores intention as an energy that we are part of — a wonderful field of energy we can access for co-creating our lives as we most want them to be. In the first part of the book, Wayne offers true stories and examples that show how to make the connection with intention. In this part of the book Dr. Dyer describes what he calls "The Seven Faces of Intention." Dr. Dyer says he believes that if we could see intention it would have the following seven attributes.
The Seven Faces of Intention
1. Creativity
2. Kindness
3. Love
4. Beauty
5. Abundance
6. Expansion
7. Receptivity
As Dr. Dyer says, to work with the power of intention we need to emulate these attributes and he gives us wonderful examples of how we might go about doing it.
In part II of the book, Dr. Dyer offers us a guide with specific ways to apply the principles in our life on a daily basis. In this section the eight chapters show examples of using intention to create the results you want for your life. Two of the eight intentions he covers in this section are, "It is my intention to Respect Myself at All Times" and "It is my intention to Attract Ideal People and Divine Relationships." Each of the eight intentions includes 10 suggestions for practicing it and each section ends with gratitude as #10 in the list.
In part III of the book you will find Dr. Dyer's description of a person connected to the universal mind of intention. Wayne calls these individuals "connectors." Being with a person who is a "connector" feels awesome because they emulate the "seven faces of intention" — these people are creative, loving, kind, appreciate beauty, believe we live in an abundant world, are expansive, and receptive. Being with them is inspiring and encourages us to believe in our ability to connect with the power of intention to create our world in our own way.
Two of my favorite quotes from Wayne Dyer are in this book:
"Contemplate yourself as being surrounded by the conditions you want to produce."
"When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."
As we begin the last month of 2010, let's all remember these two quotes. We can each choose to contemplate being surrounded by the conditions we most want to produce. And I've found it to be true that when I change the way I look at things, the things I look at change. In fact, it's also true that the more you change the way you look at things, the more the things you look at change.
This book, in its beautiful gift edition, is wonderful to give — or receive — as a gift this holiday season!

Exciting news! Hay House sent me a box of Cheryl Richardson's new "My Daily Affirmation Cards" to review. My first impression when I opened the box was that they look very different from the first two card decks Cheryl published. It took a little time for me to get used to the black frame and gray-black color on the back of the new cards because they are strikingly different from the two previous sets.
My brother was visiting when the cards arrived and he liked them right away! Even though my brother has enjoyed Cheryl's other card decks, he likes this set better because it has photographs. He also liked the elegant look of the black cards with silver on the sides. My husband agreed with him. Then some friends came to visit. They also liked the new cards. What I know for sure now is that the new look of these cards will appeal to a lot of people – including men!
What do I love about Cheryl's new cards?
I love the combination of photos with affirmations because the photos help me feel and remember the affirmation that goes with the photo.
I love the affirmations and that they are by categories – seven of them – and you can choose to focus on one – or more – categories each day.
I love the photos of animals, nature, art, sculptures, environments, and of beautiful interiors – and flowers, trees, birds, and Poupon!!!
I love the fact that this card deck will be more likely to feel good to men – as my brother, Duane, told me when he saw it.
I love that the backs are just the category so you can easily choose a category – and the front of each card has a photo and an affirmation.
"I've designed this card deck to support you in creating and living a great life. The cards are to be used on a daily basis to focus your attention (and intention) on the areas that need growth and support. There are seven categories to work with: Relationships, Physical Health, Prosperity, Spiritual Health, Work, Environment, and Emotional Health."
To get the most from the card deck Cheryl recommends that you choose a category or set of cards that speak to you right now. She then suggests that you read, write, and repeat the affirmations every day. Each time you say, read, or write the affirmation "you are deepening the groove in your mind that will bring that intention to life."
Affirmation cards work best if you put them in places where you'll see them over and over again. One way I like to do this is to choose four cards and put them on the top of four boxes of cards on a shelf in my bathroom so I see them every time I'm in there. I also like to keep one or two out on the counter or standing up near my makeup mirror.
I also enjoy looking at affirmations, photos, and vision boards while I exercise on our eliptical machine. I've decided that my top four values – to focus on right now are: Health, Energy, Fitness, and Personal Development so I have them on a sticky note to remind me while I exercise.
I decided to look at Cheryl Richardson's new affirmation cards while I exercise, as you can see in the photo above. I've found that it's a great way to focus on the cards because it gives me a chance to close my eyes and imagine the affirmation being true for me. I've noticed that there is something special about the combination of the photos with the affirmations. I've found it helps me to imagine them being true for me. The photos also help me remember the affirmations!
As you can also see in the photo above, I've got a sticky note on the machine that reminds me to focus on Health, Energy, Fitness, and Personal Development. I've put red hearts on it to remind me to focus on love and on having a healthy and happy heart.
The affirmation on the card with Poupon on Cheryl's desk says, "I do complete work. I tie up loose ends, follow through on projects, and enjoy the feeling that comes from a job well done."
The card with the beautiful and colorful flowers says, "My career is bursting with opportunities to express my creativity and passion."
To be totally honest, there are cards in the deck that I feel don't capture the essence of the affirmations. I also feel that it might have been better to use more than one photographer in order to capture the feeling of certain affirmations. (Also, as someone who looks forward to Cheryl's daily affirmations on facebook I have to admit I would have liked to see more photos of Cheryl's cat Poupon.) But I do feel that these cards with their valuable and well-worded affirmations will appeal to a wide audience. I do recommend buying them. I find them inspiring.
Following are a few of my favorite affirmations from Cheryl Richardson's inspiring new card deck:
"I am a respectful, loving person who cares deeply about how I treat others. People feel safe around me."
"I keep sacred daily habits that make me feel good and allow my cells to vibrate at their highest potential."
"As I celebrate and support the financial success of others, I open my life to even more good."
"I notice the beauty of nature every day, and it feeds my soul in delightful and delicious ways."
"I transform my life by transforming the space in which I live and work."
"I honor my time and energy by making smart choices that leave me feeling good about myself."
What I know for sure is that I'm enjoying Cheryl Richardson's "My Daily Affirmations" card deck and feel that it will appeal to people of all ages. You might also want to sign up for Cheryl's free weekly eNewsletter which is always inspiring and she might have a special two-for-one offer on her cards in the next newsletter. Click here to sign up for her newsletter. If you get two or more decks, you'll be able to keep some in your office, give a set as a gift, or put a card in each letter or card you send. I highly recommend buying at least one deck of these inspiring cards!

Louise Hay's newest book, "Experience Your Good Now!" arrived at my home April 23, 2010. I feel honored to have been asked to do a review of the book and I appreciate the complimentary copy sent by Hay House.
As someone who has read (and re-read) Louise's books, I found her new book, Experience Your Good Now!, to be a very special addition to my collection of her work. I love the book and the CD that comes with it!
In this book Louise writes clearly and with great passion about what "doing affirmations" really means and what affirmations can do for you.
After my first reading of her book I was already getting better results from "doing affirmations."
The book includes a CD with Louise's warm, kind, and joyful voice giving us even more understanding of how to "do affirmations" and WHY they work as well as HOW to make them work for you.
Hearing Louise's voice makes me feel good. I enjoyed listening to the CD —which isn't just her reading the book. The free CD has many additional insights to go with, and enhance, what's in the book.
I am now on my second time through both the book and the CD and I love what I feel when I read what she's written AND when I hear her voice as I drive my car. I can also imagine walking and listening to Louise's CD — in fact as I write this I feel inspired to take a walk while I listen to the CD.
Have you ever noticed that sometimes you need to hear something said in a slightly different way to REALLY get it?
In her new book, "Experience Your Good Now!" Louise Hay says some new things that really helped me get the point that EVERYTHING I say is an "affirmation." Whether what I say is about what I want, what I love, what I enjoy, what I hate, what I fear, what I'm angry about, what I'm jealous about, or what I feel resentful about — EVERY thought we think — or say out loud — is an affirmation!!!
While reading "Experience Your Good Now!" I got it. Now I will always pay close attention to what I choose to say, what I choose to think, and HOW I say things to myself and others!!!
As Louise Hay says on the back cover of the book: "It takes some time to go from a seed to a full-grown plant. And so it is with affirmations — it takes some time from the first declaration to the final demonstration. Be Patient!"
Have you read any of Louise Hay's books? Have you heard her warm, loving, and inspiring voice? Louise Hay is a treasured teacher in my life and in the lives of people all over our planet. The world is a happier, brighter, more creative, and fun place thanks to Louise Hay.
Do you like to take books with you when you travel? The small size of this book makes it a perfect size to take with you wherever you go.
Whether you are new to Louise Hay's work, or have been a fan for years, I highly recommend buying her new book!
