Mary Ann was Director of Girl Scouts Save the Bay serving over 54,000 girls and has also served as a Chaplain at Marin General Hospital where she counseled patients and their families.

Live Your Music – Interview with Diana Toma 11/11/15

Diana Toma is an award winning Romanian visual artist currently teaching and creating in Atlanta, Georgia. Her painting approach focuses on fast, free-flowing painting release.
Exhibiting in both Europe and continental USA, Diana has been actively involved with the art community since 1995 participating in countless art projects, art camps and art-festivals, and showcasing her work in over sixty group exhibitions and solo art shows. Diana holds a Masters Degree in Fine Arts from the prestigious Romanian University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca.

In 2013 Diana was commissioned by the United States Tennis Association to create artwork for the US Open Tennis Championships theme art, and her art was reproduced on a line of tees for the US Open 2013.
In 2014 her work “Motherhood-ness” was published on the cover of Contrapositions Magazine; in the same year two of her artworks were selected to be showcased on a 30ft billboard at Bartaco, in Midtown Atlanta.
In 2015 Diana became the grand prize winner of the Michaels Springtime in Paris, a national contest with over 11,000 national submissions.
This year Diana was invited to be the solo juror for Kudzu Art Center annual art show “Opened Juried Exhibition 2015." Also Diana also received the third place in the professional artist category of National Arts Program, and was featured in the NAP spotlight on their website.

We had a wonderful 30 minute conversation about creativity, art, and making your dreams come true. The stories Diana told on the show today were inspiring and remind us all that when we are willing to live the music we hear calling us, amazing things can happen for us and through us. Diana's mission is to move, touch, and inspire people through being authentic. Her art moves me, touches my heart, and inspires me and I greatly enjoyed having her as my guest for Live Your Music this week!
Today, Diana reminded us that we live in a country where dreams can come true. Because she grew up in Romania, she is very aware of the opportunities we have to follow our passion and live the music we hear calling us here in the U.S.

Live Your Music – Interview with Chuck Ballinger 11/04/15

My inspiring, fun friend Chuck Ballinger was my guest for Live Your Music this week.

When people ask Chuck what he does, he often doesn’t know how to answer. He realizes most people want to know what he does for a living, but that is rarely his top priority.
Chuck says he’s always been self-employed as a designer/builder, but his contracting business merely provides him with the means to do many things.
Chuck has written for over ten national magazines specializing in travel, building, and scuba diving.
His art has been shown in numerous shows. His unique style features paintings based on “social commentary." Following are two examples of Chuck's art. One is titled "Fast Food at Night" and the other is titled "The Birth of Baby Santa."
Chuck’s travels have taken him to over 60 countries. Many of those trips were on assignment as a travel and scuba-diving journalist.
In 2001, he wrote the book An American Underwater Odyssey - 50 Dives in 50 States and it chronicles his journey to discover America both above and below the surface in each state. This personal quest took over a year to complete.

Chuck is also the president of our fun and inspiring Toastmasters club, Southern Marin Toastmasters 1441, in Mill Valley, California.

My inspiring, talented, and fun friend Robert Berry was back on Live Your Music today talking about the new December People performances coming up and the release of their album – A Classic Rock Christmas – featuring well-known holiday songs re-created in the styles of popular rock bands. December People always brings huge fun, holiday spirit, gratitude, and reminders of the importance of giving back to your own community by making donations when you attend their shows. Robert is a performing musician, singer songwriter, record producer, and is the owner of Soundtek Studios in Campbell, California.
In addition to his own music, and performing with others, Robert is the creator of December People, his holiday band that plays creative and high energy classic rock Christmas songs.

When you listen to my interview with Robert Berry, you'll hear a brand new version of the song Silver Bells in the style of Tom Petty from A Classic Rock Christmas. I love the new album and wish it had been possible to play several of the songs.
The release date for the new album is November 7, 2015 which is when they perform their first show for this year in Monterey, California.
The songs on the new album are performed in the styles of the following rock artists: Tom Petty, The Eagles, Fun, Toto, The Tubes, Dire Straights, Van Halen, Train, John Lennon, and Kansas.
There is also an original Robert Berry Christmas song titled That Time of Year on the album. I've enjoyed all of the albums before this one, but this new album is my favorite. I can't believe the amazing creativity and musical prowess of Robert Berry, Gary Pihl, David Medd, David Lauser, and Jack Foster when they perform as December People.
We're looking forward to seeing the new show in Pleasanton, California on Saturday, December 12, 2015. There are two shows that day and we've decided to go to the early show at 2pm. The shows are family friendly and I'm happy that there is an early show in Pleasanton this year!

Live Your Music – Interview with Robert Berry 09/23/15

Robert Berry is a Grammy nominated recording artist, singer, songwriter, producer and performing musician.
Robert Berry was featured on the album "3" with Keith Emerson and Carl Palmer; he has toured with Ambrosia; and has a long running project - Alliance - with members of Boston, Sammy Hagar and Night Ranger. He has also performed with the Tubes andGreg Kihn and is the creator of December People which is his band that performs around the holidays playing Christmas carols written in the style of classic rock groups.
Robert is also the owner of Soundtek Studios in Campbell, California. Robert has the poster (shown below) hanging up at his recording studio and when we go there it reminds us of what an exciting adventure this was for him and that dreams can come true.
During this interview, Robert and I talked about what it was like to perform with Keith Emerson, Carl Palmer and Paul Keller for the 3 Live Tour in 1988. We also talked about the new release of a two-CD set of live recordings from the concert in Boston. The live CDs have fantastic sound for a live recording. As I said during the show, I am so glad to have them since I never got to see them perform live back in 1988. Listening to the CDs helps me imagine what it was like to be at the concert and see these master musicians perform.

During the show you'll hear a song titled On My Way Home from the live album. Robert shared some inspiring stories about the origin of the song. The song is powerful and hearing it reminds us of how we all need to enjoy the time we have here on Earth.
I've known Robert since our college years and during today's interview he shared stories I'd never heard before. It was great to hear what it was like recording the album with Keith Emerson and Carl Palmer and a special treat to find that Robert's long-time friend and band mate from HUSH, Paul Keller, was chosen as the guitarist to join them on tour!
Without a doubt, Keith Emerson is one of the best keyboard players in the world and Carl Palmer is an incredible drummer. Emerson, Lake and Palmer was one of the bands I enjoyed hearing during college — but I have to say that my favorite album is To the Power of Three which is the one recorded with Robert Berry.

Live Your Music – Honoring Dr. Wayne Dyer 09/16/15

This week, in honor of Dr. Wayne Dyer, I've decided to share links for shows I've done with Wayne Dyer's daughters Skye Dyer and Serena Dyer Pisoni, and Hay House authors Alex Woodard, Dave Carroll, and Michael J. Michael J. Chase was on my show last year to talk about his book The Radical Practice of Loving Everyone: A four-legged approach to enlightenment. Focusing on the gregarious antics of his beloved dog Mollie, Michael writes and speaks with humor about how to live a life of kindness and love. In 2007, Michael started The Kindness Center with the vision of creating a more peaceful and kindhearted world. Rather than build a physical “center,” he decided to spread his message across the globe by creating “random acts of kindness” events.

Aarin Burch brings over two decades of creative sensibility, business management and production experience to both Aarin Burch Productions, her film production company, and Laurel Burch Studios.
Aarin grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area where she watched her mom, Laurel Burch, hand craft vintage jewelry and produce iconic artworks from inside their own home.
Aarin began her own creative journey at the California College of Arts and Crafts where she obtained her B.F.A.and served on the Frameline Board of Directors as an established filmmaker.
Her unique aesthetic has given her the chance to create trailers for several feature length films, while also producing and directing her own documentaries including one focusing on Laurel’s life and art. With her films being shown at festivals all throughout the world, she's received notable recognition and established a profound name for herself in both the film and business merchandising industries.
Currently, Aarin is the President of Laurel Burch Studios, where she directs the licensing and business development of the Laurel Burch brand in North America.
During her free time, Aarin teaches Kajukenbo — an eclectic Martial Art style — where she holds a 5th degree blackbelt.

Aloha Wayne Dyer…
As many of you know, one of my most treasured teachers is Dr. Wayne Dyer. You might also know that my radio show, Live Your Music, got its name because of him. Dr. Dyer was always saying, "Don't die with your music still in you." While thinking about what Wayne was saying without saying "don't" and "die," I chose to call it "Live Your Music." Wayne wanted us all to live the "music" we hear calling us. Wayne lived his music by teaching, writing books, creating audio recordings, hosting his weekly Hay House Radio show, and giving inspiring talks all over the planet.
Wayne's daughter, Serena Dyer Pisoni, has written a book titled Don't Die With Your Music Still in You and I've talked with her about it on my show. His daughter Skye Dyer is living her music by writing songs and singing. Skye has also been on my show. You can hear the replays of those shows by clicking on the link for my show's on-demand episodes.
As you may have heard, last weekend Dr. Dyer became what I like to think of as an Angel in the Sun.
Wayne Dyer has been part of my life since I read his book Your Erroneous Zones in 1978. He taught me to Love First and he helped inspire me to write my book and host my radio show. I am thankful for every time we got to see him on Maui and every time I got to hear him speak in San Jose, San Francisco, Las Vegas, San Diego, and Pasadena. My husband, Dudley, our son Zander, and I treasure our memories of our time with him on Maui and here in Marin County, California at Book Passage in 2001. Wayne Dyer was a "scurvy elephant" and we could totally relate because we are all "scurvy elephants" as well. We are so very thankful to have been blessed with the love he helped us feel and express. Aloha Wayne Dyer. We are sending love to you, your family, and all who love you!
Aloha means both hello and goodbye. The word Aloha is a favorite of mine and I love what it says about it in the poster below. "I believe in Aloha and Kindness, 'Ohana first, meaningful Friendships, counting my Blessings, and Giving to others. I choose to see the good in life even during times of struggle. I am Grateful for the life i have and for all the wonderful people that make this journey worthwhile."
Dr. Wayne Dyer lived the spirit of Aloha. He lived on Maui and loved to walk along Kaanapali Beach. Let's all do our best to live the spirit of Aloha – to be kind, value friendships and family, to count our blessings, and to choose to see the good in life. And let's also choose to be happy, and spread happiness, as Swati Nigam and I talked about on my show today. Love and happiness are what Wayne was teaching in every book he wrote and every time he spoke at an event or on his radio show. I know Wayne would want us all to do our best to live love, be happy, and spread happiness!

Chris Austria and friends at the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary
Chris Austria works for the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Uganda. This haven is home to 48 orphaned chimpanzees that have been rescued from the illegal wildlife trade. They live on 95 acres of forest habitat. The sanctuary was founded in 1998 by Dr. Jane Goodall and a group of founding trustees.
Originally from San Francisco, California, Chris has worked with tigers, lions, leopards, birds of prey, and a variety of animals for many years at Marine World Africa U.S.A., Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, California and the San Francisco Zoo.

Chris grew up in a music family. His father was a violinist in the San Francisco Symphony for 35 years, and his mother was a flamenco guitarist. In addition to his work with animals, Chris was the director of music licensing for Independent Distribution Collective in San Francisco and managed the music licensing catalogue and placed music in TV, Film, and video games.
Chris has been a tiger analyst for the ABC TV Network and worked with the World Wildlife Fund’s Bay Area Regional Office in prospect research and fundraising events.

Live Your Music – Interview with Robert Crane 07/29/15

Robert Crane has been the Marin county manager for the West Coast Songwriters, a Non Profit Organization, for the past three years. He hosts a monthly songwriting contest for West Coast Songwriters at Fenix Supper Club in San Rafael, California.
Robert says he only wrote two songs from age 8 through age 50. But at age 50, a light went on and opened that songwriting flood gate. He says his wife Mary gets the credit for inspiring him to write, which is another story!
Today we talked about songwriting, the West Coast Songwriters events, and the music Robert hears calling him.
West Coast Songwriters' annual competition is Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Fenix. The competition will include all of the songwriters who have won "Best Song of the Month" during the last year. To get information about the event and how you can attend, please click here.

Shiloh Hobel is a Bay Area native, music industry professional, vocalist, musician, composer, and performer. For over two decades, Shiloh has earned a respected reputation as a music industry studio production management professional and singer for The Sausalito Record Plant Studio with three-time Grammy winning record producer, Narada Michael Walden, where she earned dozens of gold and multi-platinum awards.
Shiloh's Artist Clientele, for her vocals and production management, includes: Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Lisa Fischer, Patti LaBelle, Barbra Streisand, Elton John, Steve Winwood, Rick James, Journey, Heart, Santana, Ted Nugent, and Howard Hewitt.
Shiloh is currently writing, recording, and performing her own original music through her company, Shiloh Road Productions, and collaborates with other musicians and producers worldwide.

Live Your Music – Interview with Zander DeNador 06/10/15
Hello Everyone,
I am excited to have my son, Zander DeNador, as my guest for Live Your Music this week!

Zander DeNador is a film editor, actor, musician, and singer songwriter.
Zander graduated from Chapman University and Dodge College of Film and Media Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film Production with an emphasis on film editing. His first job was working on the ABC TV show Wipeout for seasons six and seven and he is now working on Married to Medicine Houston on Bravo.
His passion for film began with creating many videos during high school, some for homework assignments. During Zander's junior year in college he created a short film called Axe of God which is a manifestation of his creative passions, for film and music, coming together.
Zander studied acting from an early age and continued acting in musicals and plays during middle school, high school, and college. Four of the plays he starred in include: Grease, Into the Woods, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, and Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Zander's passion for music also started at an early age and by the time he was in high school he was playing guitar with his Dad and writing songs which were recorded by Robert Berry at Soundtek Studios.

The first two songs Zander wrote are on his dad's first album Holiday on Earth as bonus tracks. D2 – The DeNadors' Second Album, has songs by Zander and his dad, Dudley. Most of the songs on the album were the result of collaborations between the two and the rest were written individually.

Michelle Chappel was my guest for Live Your Music today.
Michelle Chappel has a PhD from Princeton, is an internationally-acclaimed musician, businesswoman, and keynote speaker who inspires us to be more creative in work, school and life.
After being voted “Most Inspirational Professor” at the University of California, Santa Cruz, Michelle ditched academics to follow her childhood dream to be a singer-songwriter.

Sonia Choquette has been a treasured teacher in my life for many years. During the show you'll hear us talk about her wonderful book and audio recordings for Creating Your Heart's Desire which was my introduction to Sonia and her work many, many years ago.
You'll also hear about our cat, Bender, Gumby, and my green glitter platform shoes so I've included a photo of them.
The reason for Gumby being in the photos is that Sonia took her Gumby with her on her 38-day pilgrimage along the Camino de Santiago (a 500-mile trek over the Pyrenees and across northern Spain). Gumby has been keeping me company ever since I started to read her book Walking Home.
